IVA Tax Request

I’ve made my IVA payment (it is a lump-sum IVA) & awaiting my completion certificate. (Payplan). However, I have had an email from an outside company, notifying me I need to complete forms to ensure my tax code is correct as any overpayment from the past few years should go to my creditors. Payplan have assured me it is legitimate
Am I under a legal obligation to complete this? As I’m thinking they had already accepted the amount offered & is this just a ploy by payplan to get extra revenue for themselves (ie in costs, etc)
I don’t remember being told about it beforehand & surely it should have been done before my creditors meeting?

Thank you in advance for any advice anyone could give

Never heard of that before, ever, is it likely that you have overpaid your income tax?
Only HMRC deals with tax, anyone else writes to you, treat with extreme prejudice.

It’s Taxrefundco & my IVA supervisor confirmed it is legitimate and Payplan have instructed them.I know I have not overpaid tax as I work in payroll.Their emails make it sound as though it’s something I legally have to do but I’m wondering if it’s just another arm of Payplan as surely my creditors will only get the amount they agreed to at the meeting?0

From their trust pilot reviews, I didn't look at the 5 stars I went for the 1 star seem to get the truth that way, they look like a company that will get a tax refund if you are due one then take most of the money themselves. If you are due a tax rebate you can do that quite easily yourself. I wouldn't trust tax refund co. I'd tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.2 -

It`s similar to reclaiming PPI, you had to agree to the IP doing a PPI reclaim check up until the time ran out to do so, this will be something along those lines, another source of revenue for them.
Despite what Pay Plan say, personally I would say to them no refund is due, my tax code is correct, therefore there is no need for me to deal with this company, who I am extremely wary of as a potential scammer, please send my completion certificate, and leave it at that.
My concern would be when you engage these companies, you give them permission to check for tax refunds, and this permission does not end, unless you cancel it in writing, so they could potentially check this every year for you and take their cut of any refund.
I am aware the Government was to change the law to prevent this from happening, but I`m unsure if that has happened or not.
I would say no to Pay plan and give them your reasons why.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
