Ebay return

Just a question about returning an item that didn't work/fit, I requested a return and was immediately sent a return label by I presume ebay, I took the item to the post office where they said the postage was not enough for the weight, it was for 100 grams and the item is 140 grams and also the QR code was not valid.
I have emailed the seller through ebay with no response, I have had a chat conversation with ebay and they have put a 5 day hold on the case.
My question is would the return label have been sent by ebay or the seller?
I also looked at the senders label and the postage was for 67 grams so less than half of the actual weight.

If you received the lable instantly/automatically it will have been sent by eBay.
Either caused by the seller entering the weight wrong when listing the item,
Or, listing via the app rather than a pc where there is not option to enter the weight so ebay just guess it.
Or, listing an item/in a category with postage caps. Seems ebay have decided something like a old newspaper can't weight more than 100g so the seller can't charge more than £1.70 for postage for example. Works ok for heavier itms as the buyer just pays £1.70 for postage and the seller pays the extra/difference but as you see now, a pain when it comes to returns and ebay automatically providing a label for a "better buying experience "1 -
Thanks for the reply, I have now heard from the seller and they said to put it in the post box and they would sort out any postage problems, only thing with that is no proof of posting.I will have to wait and see if it arrives. If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!0

Proof of posting is no use to you anyway0

Ebay don't accept it as proof you have returned the item.
You/they need proof of delivery which comes from the item tracking0 -
se2020 said:Proof of posting is no use to you anywayI had a return over a year ago, buyer had sent the return label via eBay and the circumstances were almost identical to the OP, small item of clothing, completely wrong colour and size sent and weighing in at around 160g but with a LL up to 100g label supplied. Seller was being difficult and did the same said just bung it in a box, but eBay said they would refund me and I could keep the item unless seller wanted to send another label. I never got another label and the item is still lurking somewhere in a bag in a wardrobe somewhere here.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank you soolin, I had that much of a problem getting through to ebay and didn't really understand what was going on, ebay must have nugded the seller because they got back to me the next day telling me to do as I have written above and said because of the case being open they will have to get ebay to refund me.I hope that makes sense. If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!0

I have this exact issue with eBay. Returning 2 types of item (plug sockets) so it generated 2 returns labels. I’ve wrapped the 2 parcels and attached labels then noticed each label states weight up to 1kg. The label I received the items from (1 parcel) states 3.82 kg. Was going to put in the parcel box for posting… however figured it wouldn’t reach the seller in time as it would probably be held for lack of postage fees.Anyone feel like this is a way for sellers to try and not refund you if the return date passes? Don’t wish to be cynical, but even Etsy asks for the weight of items so surely eBay sellers must have to advise the weight… or how are these return postage costs calculated… if based on weight?
I tried ‘cancelling the contract’ as the item(plug sockets) didn’t state in the description it required a 35mm back box… (which in my opinion should have been information that was included) our installed ones were 25mm so the covers didn’t fit. They advised to follow the returns process where I am responsible for the postage…0 -
I would say contact eBay by phone (choose a help option that says something like 'have us call you') and tell them you need postage labels that cover the right weight.1

I've had this a few times, when return label weight is too low.
You can "chat" (to a human after exhausting bot), or phone, and explain. They'll tell the seller to issue you with the correct weight label.
If they don't, ebay will find in your favour and you'll get refunded (and probably keep the item/s)
