Royal mail delivered on wrong day

First of all I realise what an idiot I have been and have learnt from this but is there a chance of compensation. Story is, I sold some trainers to someone, who I had been selling to for over 6 months and built up a good customer seller relationship, or so I thought . Privately I contacted them via text message and we agreed a price and I would send trainers and he would pay money into my account on the Tuesday morning . I sent off the trainers via royal mail, before I received payment, yes stupid I know. But when the person had not paid in the Tuesday and will not answer my calls or messages I rescheduled the delivery via royal mail and was sent confirmation saying it would be delivered the following week. I thought this would give me time to sort things out. but the next day I had email saying item not delivered as no one in, then minute later confirmation and photo proof of parcels delivered!!. So in effect I have sent someone I trusted four pairs of trainers worth £220 in sales for me, and they are now ignoring me. Can I get compensation from royal mail for delivery on incorrect day. ??

Were they sent on the "incorrect day" though? It sounds like you sent the trainers and RM gave you confirmation of an estimated delivery date, rather than you paying for a specific service, e.g. 24/48 hour delivery to arrive on a specific day. On that basis, I don't think RM have done anything to breach their contract so compensation wouldn't be due.mollyolly said:First of all I realise what an idiot I have been and have learnt from this but is there a chance of compensation. You're operating as a business, so consumer rights wouldn't ordinarily apply. RM's argument would reasonably be that if you wanted items delivered on a specific day and to be tracked/signed for/insured then they offer those services. It sounds as if you just used the general postal service.
Your complaint is with your customer, not RM. Why not write to them (assuming the address you have is their residential address) asking for payment, and if they don't pay, you will consider small claims court action?6 -
Is that even possible?mollyolly said:... I rescheduled the delivery via royal mail and was sent confirmation saying it would be delivered the following week...
I thought that once something had been transferred over to RM for delivery then that was it. The sender no longer had any control or influence over it...1 -

I am afraid the line I have highlighted rather sums this up!mollyolly said:First of all I realise what an idiot I have been and have learnt from this but is there a chance of compensation. However, despite that, If you have proof of delivery to the correct address you can pursue the "buyer", if necessary through the courts, for the money you are owed.
If the RM have delivered to the wrong address you may have some claim against them but that would be limited to how every much compensation the service you chose provides for a lost parcel.2 -
The confirmation may have been an automatic reply.
When did you post them and what postage did you use?

Parcels were collected from me by RM on Tuesday, I used 48hr tracked. Delivery was for the Thursday

On the Wednesday when I realised he had not paid I went online to RM and changed the schedule to the following week, which was confirmed

Then on the Thursday I got this email saying couldn't deliver1

It does state time or date isn't a guarantee.
I think you're flogging a dead horse expecting anything from RM.
Let's Be Careful Out There4 -
Expecting the RM to pull out one piece of mail that's in transit on a prescribed service is zero. Recipient has total control over when it's delivered.Okell said:
