We are a couple and have both been asked for 4 months of bank statements. We are going to send them in on Monday.

Here is where my problem lies, between us we have just under £6000 across the two bank accounts.  Lots of things come out of the accounts each month for example rent, water, gas, virgin, online food shopping etc.

Every month I withdraw £1000,  £430 of this is my husband's pip, when he first claimed it it was dla and he never had a bank account so it got paid into mine.  He uses this money for example he tops up the electric meter with £100 per month because he is always cold and has the fire on ll the time, he buys supplements and vitamins which he thinks helps his condition, he likes reading and listening to music so buys books and cds etc.  Just a quick snapshot of what he spends his money on.

I have £570 out of that I pay full council tax of £150 per month, tv licene £15,  asda christmas savings stamps £30 a month, cigarettes (I know bad) about £100 a month, window cleaner £10 fortnightly, Gardner £20 fortnightly.  Might buy odd things for the house, last week I bought rugs, cushions and paint for the living room.  Might go out for a meal once a month, top up on my food shop etc, again just a quick snapshot of how we live.

I am just thinking how bad it looks on paper £6000 in savings and withdrawing  out £1000 a month.

It wouldn't matter to me if they asked for 1/2/3 years of bank statements because they would all generally say the same thing.

My husband receives his state pension and pip, I work part time and we receive anything from £250 to £650 per month uc.

I would be interested to know what others think on this matter.
How did you get on with your review, what questions did they ask, did they say anything about withdrawing 1000 a month in cash

Just thought I would give you an update.

Exactly 2 weeks after sending in the bank statements received a message about the phone call which was only 2 days later.

I worked myself up into a frenzy.  My husband had his phone call first, they asked him 2 questions about money going in his bank which he explained and that was basically the end of his call.

Now onto me, I have a whole load of transactions on mine from withdrawing money, to a family member putting money in my bank because they don't have PayPal so I buy their bits and pieces and they give me the money,  the list goes on.  For example my husbands bank statements were two pages long, one of mine was seven pages so that's how much activity goes on.

There was no mention of the cash withdrawals, no mention of much really, they asked about four transactions and that was it.  Each call lasted about ten minutes.

Got a message after the phone calls to say review was now complete and no changes.

Thank you all who replied to my questions.

My son had a follow up phone call - blanket message sent advising this could last an hour… security took longer than the content of the call.

Q1 who is this paying into your account ( X X Same surname). Answer My sister.
Q2 do you have any other accounts answer no.

Great to hear I take out 400 a month on my statements and the woman kept on asking questions about it, I had to say what I spent the 400 on each month for 4 months, then she kept on saying there's 80 pounds left for that month where did that go.  guess everyone's different.

The issue is I doubt any of them have been trained in actual benefit law, they have just been given a rough guidance of what to ask.
I know from reading reports of people's interviews that they can be asked totally irrelevant questions, that legally they have no right to ask.
