It's often a good idea to keep your monthly ins/outs in one account and your savings in another to make it easy to see which is which. (It doesn't need to be a 'savings account' just a seperate account).
Your monthly ins/outs are not counted as savings/capital.
    That makes sense, thanks.

Out of curiosity what do they ask when they ring you. Is it a full interrogation, just ask odd questions, do they pick out certain things .......

They'll go through some questions about any other potential sources of money/income, then ask questions about your bank transactions.

Mine didn't make any sense that I could see.

Asked about regular payments which were for CC, Broadband and window cleaner (amounts ranged from £12 to a few hundred).

Asked about the single PayPal transaction in the whole period for £26- seemed to be because it was a DD I had to explain how PP works.

Zero questions about money IN, quite a few transactions from selling my stuff on eBay.

So no rhyme or reason to the questions then.

I worked it out as £1850 but that was including 2x£150 disability CoL payments.

Edit: so people can check I've got it right

Is the disability payments classed as COL payments and also excluded from the £6000 UC saving threshold

    Yes.

For Tax Credits the income-related CoL payments were the same, just usually paid after the ones from DWP to make sure there was no doubling up for people who claimed a legacy DWP benefit as well as TC.
