How do I delete a thread I started?

 You can't delete the first post in a thread. You can edit once you are not classed as a newbie but that's not helpful if there are replies because then there is no context

It's pretty bad form to edit a first post/try to delete a thread, after people have in good faith given their time to help.

Which is why so many quote the posts so they're still visible

As others have said you cannot delete the first post in a thread, as that would remove all the posts replying to it, but you can edit the text (although I think that is not an option given to you until you have been on the forum a while).

What you need to do to get the thread removed entirely is to report your post to the MSE Team by clicking on the little red flag at the bottom of your post. - select the 'report' option, choose the appropriate radio button and add some text asking the forum team to delete it.

  The software our Forum uses doesn't allow a post to be removed if it's the first in a thread. This is because it would remove the complete thread. If it contains personal information, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and we can remove this for you.
