I was here last year but just played about until July. I have paid just over £1000 off my debts since July but have learned so much. I no longer add to my debt every month to buy food that often gets binned for instance. I have also realised that I can pretend that the CC debt is all I have but it aint. It was a real shock for me to discover just how much interest I was paying on debts when I was under the impression I was paying them off. Big Big HUGE learning curve for me this year and hopefully it will come to fruition next year. My goal is to cut 6 months off of my DFD at least. x5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
I have been on the website for well over a year and have mainly been lurking, reading and gleaning as many tips as possible. i have only lately started to post as its a case of getting up courage- as to debts well they are mostly Oh's due to his being self employed and basically his lack of ability to pay on time!this time last year we were skint as had to pay taxman etc. and then oh went back on the cards and the joys of emergency tax!! I also work but not consistant as i have a disabled daughter who has had a lot of time off school and also contracted diabetes type1 on top of it all. i am really glad to see the back of this year, but also happy to have found this site as have managed to reduce the debt quite a bit by about 3k. My goals for next year are to get more work, reduce debt by about 10k and move house as we need an extra bathroom for daughter's needs and there is no room to add one here.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

I had a post on that thread last year, but this year have not been on as much as I would like due to work and a broken computer. I'm trying to throw myself into moneysaving a lot more at the moment. I really want to make some big changes this year coming.;) I think I have only just had my real LBM.

January Shopping Challenge : Target £50 - Spent £16.050 -
I had a look through the posts and couldn't see one from me so I was probably still new and shy.
I must admit this site is my comfort blanket - so much so, I came online C Day just for a peek. We have had a good yearish but a rubbish Christmas.
Anyway I would like to:
Get my debts to £21K
Loose 2 stone (PCOS will make that very hard)
Really think before spending
Smile every day even if it's a fake smile!
1 step xxIf you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome!

Well hello all,
Been here about 18 months now, but more of a lurker lately as I am now debt free. Managed to clear my final credit card very recently.Have put all my pressies on a cashback card but that will be paid off as soon as I get paid.
So I've had a great year finance wise thanks to MSE EBAY QUIDCO ETC. so nice to know my bank account doesn't automatically have a minus sign next to it! I've changed my ways completely, I check my internet bank every morning whereas before I wouldn't have known from one week to the next how much was in there. We do however have no savings now, due to having to spend ISA money ( an inheritance which I was determined not to use on debts) on a new car, but at least we paid cash for it!
So 2007 is going to be an enjoying having a tiny bit more money, and saving year! Would love to go to Florida again ( the reason we had debt in the first place!) but won't go until I have the cash to pay for it.
So I wish you all a truly prosperous 2007 and hope that life is good to you....
That was me! You don't see me here very often as I have stayed debt free all year, although I have just posted here again recently as I have a £500 debt again, it will be paid off in Feb but brought myself back here for a short sharp shock. We still have no savings, but we did manage a weeks holiday, paid for, and we have paid for a skiing holiday for daughter which is now almost paid for. I still hope to go to Florida next year, and as such any survey, quidco, terramundi money is going in a seperate account ( only £49 s0 far but it's a start!) My bank accounts have been in credit constantly all year, and my family all laugh at my use of vouchers in Boots and Tesco!
Hoping you all have a great New Year and achieve your goals....0 -
Wow - some names on that thread I'd forgotten all about
. Wonder how they're all doing now.
I was a bit vague in my post on that thread. It was a bit of a rough time for me back then. Thankfully, they're both doing fine now.
My goals for this year are:
Lose two stone (at least)
Shift all of the debt by the end of the year (and before I get married)
Make a concerted effort to stay in touch with friends.
Find a new job
Plan my wedding without going over budget!
Enjoy 2008 everyone!

This time last year, I had no idea that MSE even existed-found it by chance over the summer when I was looking for a budget planner, and started lurking...am excited about 2008, as I'm not afraid of checking my bank statements any more, and going to go all out selling stuff on ebay and amazon! Also Grocery Challenge for the first time, sealed jar and losing some weight...0

This time last year I had not heard of MSE, and I thought I was better with money than I actually was IYSWIM.
I found the site by chance when I typed 'saving money' into a search engine... the rest is history. (I was actually trying to find the TV series 'money savers' web site because I wanted a recipe). I read the advice pages avidly, bought Martin's book, lurked on the forums and amazed my husband with some fantastic savings!
We have saved money on all our insurances, used cash back sites, claimed a tax refund, benefitted from credit card freebies, max-ed our loyalty points, saved over £100 a month on food - the list goes on!
I shall be recording all my savings properly in 2008 so I will know how much of a difference the site has made to me financially.
Thank you Martin, and everyone at MSE!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Yes I was here and looking back its sad to see so many have gone by the wayside but I hope they'll be back....my goals are the same - pay the CC off, stop smoking (again) & loose weight but having said that I am happy that I've paid over £5000 off this year which isnt bad when you consider that I had a £600 vet bill, £600 boiler repair, the diet that helped me loose 4 stone cost 1700 & I also had to buy a new wardrobe every month! Have put some back on (whch I knew I would) & want to start running. Have also noticed a clear link between eating rubbish & being ill! Have got my second cold/flu in less than a month! Not good so healthy eating begins!
This year, I am sure, will be even better than last & thats no mean feat as I end this year happier than I have ever been, despite the debts.Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0
