Need urgent help. Just realised we're out of contract ..we only use HD sports and fibre super fast of 70mb. We pay separately for TNT!! Sky will reduce by £10 which is shocking as a new customer £70 all in. I need fibre for work from home, they say one notice for TV or fibre is 14 and the other 31? So if I went to BT how does that work as I want both at the same time?!!!

You'll either have to have some crossover having Sky and BT TV at the same time. Or hand your notice in to Sky for TV only, then approx half way through cancellation notice contact BT to take out BB and TV with them. There may still be some crossover for TV but not as much. It may also be the BT TV deals are as good if you add them later. So switch your BB to BT, then when Sky TV switches off take out BT TV. Remember never to hand in cancellation notice for your Broadband, you won't be able to take it out elsewhere then, you go to a new provider, give them the details of your existing provider and they deal with it all.
The best thing to do is first hand in notice for Sky TV only, then contact BT asking about BB and what are the options available for when the TV contract would start as they may be able to delay this to coincide with your Sky TV switch off date.0 -
Soooooooo called sky not knowing the above and HE has cancelled it without my permission!! I said I'd call back as he didn't explain any of this, he just said BT would probably charge me a line rental fee (I don't want my landline) and to ask if they want to take over through a phone line or not, he did explain he simply said 2 ways. I need BB to work from home, he's cancelled both ..AND said I have to return a 7 yr old TV box or face charges. So what do I do do I ask BT to do the transfer like a mobile phone???0

You don't own it, you've never owned it, you will never own it, you just rent it.As for the internet... well if you don't need a phone line and can get FTTP just sign up with somebody.0

This may have already gone t*ts up , ignoring TV for the moment, if moving from one Openreach provider ( Sky ) to another ( BT ) you contact the new company, they arrange the move , contacting the old provider on your behalf, this is where the 14 day ‘notice’ comes in , it takes around 14 days to complete and you keep ( and pay for ) the old provider during these 14 days ….a good way to c*ck it up is to tell the old company to cease the broadband independently as that stops a seemless migration ( BT cant takeover a line in the process of being ceased by Sky ) , its very important not to contact the old company yourself after you have picked a new provider ( this is only on Openreach , Virgin and Alt Nets are different .
TV is totally separate contract, and it’s likely any change to TV supplied by Sky ( getting rid of it for example or removing/adding channels etc ) it’s 30 days to take effect , so cancel Sky TV , it keeps working for 30 days ( the notice period ) and you pay for those 30 days .
If you never actually told Sky to cease your broadband, but they have set it in motion anyway , they have messed up , but you pay the price by being without service from anyone for a while ….are you sure Sky have ceased your broadband, or you are definitely in the 30 days before it happens…if you are you could cancel the cease , then contact BT and the migration happens correctly.0 -
You'll need to contact Sky again explaining you didn't want the broadband cancelled, they should be able to reverse this. Then you can contact BT to take it out with them and they'll deal with the transfer of your services. Whether you want a landline or not is up to you, BT offer services with one and without. We got rid of ours last time.0
