Hertz refusing to refund deposit (they say they've refunded me)!

As a rule for non receipt of refund. Something is required to prove they have refunded you. So like a refund receipt. Date, amount & last 4 of card number.
S75, never come across on for this situation. But bank would go chargeback route 1st.
But as @ Okell check you did not get a refund when they say. You could then go back with proof that they did not. Wonder if this is a simple name issue & when taking the hire it has been linked to another person.Life in the slow lane2 -

See what @born_again suggests would be the better approach. (I believe he or she works for a card povider)
And also - just to be 100% clear - you have doublechecked that Hertz didn't pay you £200 in November last year?
(I know that was prior to you hiring the vehicle but if I were you I'd want to satisfy myself that they certainly were talking rubbish rather than just assuming they were. Somebody at Hertz thinks they've already refunded you £200. If I were you I'd want to know why they think that)
They say:
"We would like to confirm that a credit of $200.00 was sent to your credit card provider on November 17, 2023. With this in mind, please contact your credit card provider with the following authorization number, and they will be able to confirm when it will be credited to your account.

Sounds even more like someone has got accounts mixed up when you hired the car. Adding you onto a previous user. Clearly the dept you are using are getting you mixed up with someone else.
CC would only be able to trace via ARN (acquirer reference number) auth no means nothing.
Have you been back to where hired from & get them to check the details used?Life in the slow lane2 -
Ok, Ive just remembered that when we went to collect the vehicle, it wasn't available for some reason, so they gave us a totally different car (a massive upgrade in fact).
I'm wondering whether Hertz have made an error here somewhere by associating another renter of the original vehicle with my details (as suggested earlier in this thread).0 -

Each reply to me from Hertz has been very robotic, antagonistic and arrogant.
It's like I'm itemising every single date and telling them exactly what happened and when, yet they're completely ignoring every fact that I state, without considering for one moment that they may have actually made a mistake and got accounts mixed up!0 -
