Connecting Flights Compensation

On the 24th May we flew with Emirates to the Maldives via Dubai.
No issues on the first leg of the flight however our 04:20 flight to Male was cancelled due to a technical fault with the aircraft.
We were then booked on the 09:45 flight which got in at 14:46 which was over 5 hours later.
My question is are we entitled to compensation for the cancelled/delayed flight? Can we claim under UK regulations as we started out in the UK? I’ve read the article but doesn’t say anything about connecting flights.
thanks

Assuming all on one booking/ticket then yes you should be eligible to claim.
They may try and give you the brush off that the delayed flight wasn't a UK/EU one, but as your journey started in the UK you are eligible.0
