British Gas Migration
I’m having a nightmare understanding how I owe British Gas so much money since migrating, ombudsman involved but still no further forward, I’ll try and compact the info as best I can (note I am no longer supplied by BG)
Total cost of energy use from 29/10/21 - 11/12/23 £3319.20 (includes Gov Discount deductions of £542.48)
OPENING READS
GAS 07206
Elec 47805
CLOSING READS
GAS 09029
ELEC 55328
Total payments made by me £3704.13
Credit on account £384.93
Migrated to new account 12/12/23
Total cost of energy use 12/12/23 - 24/2/24 £489.44
OPENING READS

ELEC 55328
CLOSING READS
GAS 9296

I cannot make sense of these figures and no one seems to be able to explain! Piling my hair out trying to resolve this

In two years and six weeks, you say your cost of energy is £3319.20. That's less than 2/3 of what I've been paying for a well-insulated 2 bed flat.Your £489.44 costs for 12 Dec 2023 to 24 Feb 2024 work out to roughly £200 per month. That sounds quite reasonable to me.0

It’s the outstanding balance that’s in dispute, if I was in credit of £384.93 on 11/12/23 and only used £489.44 between 12/12/23 - 24/2/24, how can I owe £1814.160

For a gas heated property you are a high electricity user - 8253 units is about 4000 a year , average is about 3000
Those 1000 units is costing about £250 a year.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You last two months cost £200 per month - as per my previous message. Based on this rate, two years worth of energy would be £4800 (200*24).Based on this I suspect that the cost of energy in your first two years was significantly higher than the £3319.20 figure, and that you were actually in debt by the end of the two year period. You should have the unit rates and standing charges from your tariff, so it shouldn't be too difficult to calculate what the correct cost should have been for the whole period from Oct 2021 to Feb 20240

It started at a zero balance, 29/10/21 is when BG started supplying my energy after my previous supplier ceased trading.0

We can't see what's happened unless we see the bills.1

Instead of transferring the balance of £384.93 they have sent me a cheque (I haven’t cashed it) I can’t work out where the balance of £1741.33 come from on the final bill0

This might also help better understand, where I am with this. The whole time of supply has been a nightmare battle with BG, wrong meter readings, numerous bills raised, cancelled, reissued with different readings to what I was supplying, DD cancelled by BG, changed etc, as you can probably tell, I’m stressed and confused by it all. I should add, gas has never been an issue. I will pay what I owe but I need to understand and be satisfied it is the correct amount
