Did you cause any damage to anyone else’s property when you damaged your car? Little point in withdrawing your claim if someone else has a claim against you as you’ll lose NCB even if you withdraw your claim and repair yourself.
No literally did it parking on a metal railing

Ask them for a price to retain the salvage.  I hope you still have the car in your possession?
It’s currently at the garage that the insured sorted, while I make the decision!

Get a quote for putting it back on the road and decide from there.  It's a car that you know, so most likely worth the risk, rather than spending out more to get less or equivalent in a car that you don't know

This is the trouble as to take it away from where it is now I’d be accepting the car back therefore have to cancel the claim! I’m leaning towards taking the payment minus 900 odd for to keep the car minus the excess, which would leave me with about 3 grand to get it fixed, but then it would be a Cat N so might push insurance up?

If you decide to salvage, on settlement, you will be able to remove the car but it will likely have to be transported if it is unfit for the road in its current state.  You don't want it to be picked up by co-part or similar as that will complicate matters.

To be fair say I took the car and the 3 grand, got a quote, and a quote for if I was to provide ready painted panel in the right colour and the headlight, and it was too much over my budget, I could always sell the car to the salvage company myself right? For the £900 salvage value the insurance are saying?

    Unlikely.

The £900 is the salvage value, not what a scrapyard/dismantler/salvage yard would pay you.

What did they quote you for fitting a like coloured wing and a headlight?  What other damage did the highlight?

Got a quote from the repair place the insurance sent it, they’re saying 4200 as bumper, although just chipped, will also need replacing as they said they have to do it all or not do it at all. Insurance will give me 4500 or 3600 if I keep car. Leaning towards paying £600 to get it repaired, rather than taking the 4500 and still having to spend a fair bit more for a new car?

If it really costs £600 to fix, the sensible solution is to take £3600 and the car, pay the £600 and be right back where you were, except you have £3000 to put in a savings account with "New Car Fund" written on it.

Your car as a CAT N is worth probably 75% of one with no disclosed damage, so you end up with a £3000 car that you know is a good runner, plus £3000 in the bank.
