Hi all ๐๐ป
my first post so be gentle ๐
My husband and I have made recent changes to our set up at homeโฆafter welcoming our third child, we made the decision my husband will stay at home (after sharing 6 months each for parental leave), and Iโll continue to be working full time as Iโm on the higher salary. It works well for us and the main driver for this decision is child care costs.ย

So, my question/s are related to any benefits/tax reductions/personal tax allowances, NI contributions now my husband isnโt workingโฆ can any of you clever and helpful people help enlighten me if there are any things weโd be entitled too?ย
Iโve tried to research it on HMRC site but just feel myself going round in loops, so any advice or points in the right direction or anyone in the same or similar circumstances which theyโd be happy to share would be so appreciated.ย
Many thanks!ย

The first thing is Child benefit, and to ensure it's in his name so that he gets National Insurance credits while not contributing through salary.I'm sure someone with wider knowledge can help with the restDecluttering awards 2025:ย ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธย โญ๏ธโญ๏ธ, DH:ย ๐ ๐ โญ๏ธ, DD1:ย ๐ ย and one for Mum: ๐4

If you have taxable interest you might want to look at that being in his name.ย But remember it then becomes his money to spend as he wishes ๐ณ2 -
Depending how much above 50k, you might want to add to your pension to keep your taxable income below 60k to avoid losing child benefit.ย You can also add 2880 to your DH sipp every year and the govt will gross it up to 3600.Skippydoo_22 said:
