Cheap calls to USA

Several of the deals suggested by MSE are somewhat better than my current deal. But on my current deal I can buy an extra/addon that gives reduced cost calls to the USA, which is important to me.

On looking at the suggested deals, I didn't find it easy to see if any of them offered cheap US calls as an extra. Has anyone experience of this and can make useful suggestions.

Have always used PAYG VOIP for international calls, though haven't compared prices for a few years.

What are you paying for your calls?

I pay 2p a minute on O2, plus a cost of £3 monthly for the discounted price. And the basic contract is £4 a month - small allowance, but good enough for me.

Sky (one of the current deals) charges 5p a minute, so works out more expensive.

Looking at our voip provider they charge 2p/min for US landlines and mobiles but there is no monthly fee if you dont want any other features. So you'd still pay your basic contract but use data to make international calls.

Personally I went a step further and added my mobile to the SSID so when calling from VOIP the recipient sees my mobile number and calls back to that rather than my home number (we use VOIP as our primary home telephone as well as being on mobile)

Added advantage that there is no premium for calling from overseas if you travel a lot as long as you are on wifi

Personally I'm on Lebara and it includes 100 minutes a month to the US (and lots of other countries) on most of their plans. Very happy with the service and barely ever use International mins but that occasional time to call a hotel etc in Europe is useful.

I came across Doubledial recently that seems to offer free calls to the US via an 0333 access number. Worth a go really https://www.freecallstousa.co.uk/

Looks as though my O2 deal with the international extra is still best value for me. I have long calls to a friend in USA. But perahps worth trying doubledial.

Freecallstouas.co.uk works and uses your inclusive minutes, so as long as you have enough minutes included then it should be good, otherwise you may need to look at whether its cheaper to get a contract with enough / no limit minutes or to do what you are now.
