Couscous, barley, quinoa, oatmeal, barley flakes, noodles, beans (loads of types of). Pasta comes made of all sorts of things besides wheat.

No problem - hes getting enough goodness. The above are substitute filler foods you could work your way through.

His diet sounds pretty balanced to me - he eats plenty of fruit and veg. Have you tried hiding potatoes in things like tomato sauce, or soup if you are worried about his carb intake? If you puree them them could be undetectable. My daughter ate a lot of things like this when she was younger - tomato sauce had so much more in it than tomotoes and onions! courgette, sweet potato, carrott, garlic etc and she was none the wiser. Unfortunately having scoffed loads of fruit when she was younger I can hardly get her to eat anything now, except occasionally tinned mandarins and peaches. She will eat fresh strawberries. I make smoothies with yoghurt and milk and loads of fruit and that can go down well. Gnocchi is a great idea, based on potato and semolina. Does he not like chips? Also, lots of adults have far worse diets! I know loads of adults who don't eat vegetables - I simply cannot envisage this!
  • My Children Don't Like Potatoes Either But Both Of Them Will Eat A Waffle (frozen Grid Things Made By Birds Eye, Probably Not Very Healthy). I Saw A Dietician With My Eldest Because He Didn't Seem To Eat Enough To Feed A Bird Let Alone A Child, And The Dietician Said It Was Fine To Give Him Pasta Every Day And Bread Etc.

She Said That A Lot Of People Use Potato (especially Chips) As A Staple Food Because Their Children Won't Eat Other Vegetables. Potato Isn't Actually That Nice - The Texture Is Really Solid And Clumpy. Sweet Potato Is Lovely Though.

My LO won't eat potatoes unless they are raw ..... He's 5 and normal weight/height etc. I just fill his plate with more veg.
Aren't raw potatoes faintly poisonous?

So is alcohol but I still drink loads of it:rotfl:

No but seriously my son Alex is almost 11 and from about the ages of 2-5 he survived on Mullerice, cheese sandwiches and chicken nuggets.

He is probably the healthiest and energetic of all of my 6 children (thats him on the right)
How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?
  • Just to add to this, my daughter (2Yrs) also will not eat potatoes - whether mashed, boiled, baked, roasted or even as chips!!!

She is terribly fussy. Her daily menu consists of

Breakfast: Weetabix or Weetos with milk and a banana.

Snack: Banana milkshake & a pear

Lunch: Philadelphia sandwiches plus yoghurt and piece of fruit and water.

Tea: Spaghetti bolognaise or pizza or macaroni cheese.

They are the only main meals she will eat unless it is processed chicken which I don't like giving her.
She wont eat any vegetables but will eat most fruits.

She is happy, healthy and an average weight for her height.

I do worry about her but I am sure she will eat better one day.
  • This looks fine to me. Many littlies will only eat what they choose - they're just discovering their own personality, their own likes and dislikes! She's getting fruit, protein (cheese), dairy products (yogurt), carbohydrate (Weetabix). I'd avoid processed chicken, if by 'processed' you mean 'recovered meat'. Horrible stuff.

    Best wishes

    Margaret

The processed stuff I mean are things like turkey drummers, chicken nuggets - I will only give her something like this in an emergency cos I can't stand them.
  • My dh doesn't eat potatoes either (apart from the odd portion of chips!) and he's survived to 38 - but he eats pasta, rice and bread (couscous etc - forget it - it's a man thing!) It sounds a balanced diet to me - and better than a lot of kids get.

  • Boiled egg and soldiers would be great - but she doesn't like eggs!!!

An emergency case has been when we have been at a friends house and that is what she had cooked for her children so she tried them. I haven't cooked them for her but I know it is something she will eat if we are elsewhere and that is all that is on offer.
