Why sellers don't post overseas?

Hi folks,

Still kind of puzzled as to why certain sellers don't seller overseas when they could potentially be exposing their item(s) to a significantly larger market and almost definitely a higher selling price.
I know nothing

I dont post overseas for the simple reason thats its hard to get insured recorded delivery and its extra hassle going to the post office each time to find out how much it will cost to post the thing to brazil or spain or whereever as foreign bidders want to know quite rightly how much it will cost before they bid.

If you don't have a 'signed for' type of delivery, if the person says they didn't get it then paypal will give them their money back.

Thus too much hassle when the item will most likely sell anyway in the uk....

Having sold to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America, Italy, Germany, France, Malaysia and Wales I would highly recommend it and of course would never have made as much on the items if I hadn't

One word of warning though - certificates of posting provide no compensation on overseas sales - as I recently found out - luckily the Post Office made a good will gesture on the item but not the postage !!!!

"14. Can I claim compensation for missing or damaged items?

Yes. All Airmail is covered by up to £30 compensation if the letter is lost or damaged and it's our fault. You cannot claim for items of value, unless they are sent by Airsure or International Signed For. Consequential Loss - compensation for any financial consequences of any damage or loss to items of mail - is not available. If your item is valuable, you can buy extra compensation of up to £250 or £500, depending on the destination. This additional compensation is only available when you use Airsure or International Signed For."

    From the royal mail website

Teerah - I was just reading the royal mail website as well !

There are various options to cover yourself if posting overseas which of course you can build into your P&P costs - just make sure you advertise the fact of this protection in your listing.

Seriously though overseas selling has really helped me maximise on ebay and I would recommend anybody to consider it

You don't necessarily have to go the PO to find this out. There's a postage calculator on the Royal Mail website, so if you are able to weigh the item at home you can input the weight (remember to allow for packaging!) & destination anywhere in the world & it will give you the various postage options & prices. There are various insurance options available as well.
