Shower exploded and flooded whole house after builder removed and replaced

Heres what the report from the emergency plumber says
"shower in ensuite clip severed causing water leak to upstairs and downstairs ceiling and floor."
Whats a clip?0 -
How on earth is this "builder" claiming he disconnected and refitted a shower without touching any pipework? Bizarre.0

Is it typed, or handwritten? Just trying to work out if it's poor handwriting or predictive text error.bertiebb_2 said:Heres what the report from the emergency plumber says

Any of these things I guess.bertiebb_2 said:Heres what the report from the emergency plumber says

Perhaps there should be a full stop after en-suite0

I know. His answer is he only refitted it, maybe he disturbed existing dodgy pipework. I know. Clutching at straws a bit.Aylesbury_Duck said:How on earth is this "builder" claiming he disconnected and refitted a shower without touching any pipework? Bizarre.
Like I said hes got an idea in his head that the pipework is dodgy because we've had a "few floods". The ONE flood was the hot water overheating and splitting - never had a problem with the pipework ever.0 -
I have exact same set up, I also had a minor flood after my shower was replaced as it wasn’t fitted quite right, difference is I did it myself and it was definitely my fault. As he retiled is it possible the pipe work was then to short to fit in to the shower unit
IMO it was your builders fault , of course that doesn’t help you
I wouldn’t do any repairs now until your insurance company have assessed it or have told you what you can and can’t do0 -
Fitted a few showers, no idea what a clip is that could fail and cause a flood. The written report sounds nothing like forgetting to fit a washer and overtightening - done that forgot the olive before now - who hasn't? If you do enough plumbing sooner or later you make a silly mistake. But if you forget the washer - either the 3/4 rubber or a copper olive - they leak immediately and substantially, they don't fail later, no matter how tight - no washer = no seal and an immediate leak.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

People can and do deny lots of things that they shouldn't either from an honest held position or they know it's their fault and are dishonestly hiding it. If I had £10 for every policyholder I dealt with who were reversing out of a space when the third party "came out of know where" and they went into the side of them that truly thought it was the third party's fault I would be a much richer man. Lots of policyholders seem to believe in teleporting cars.bertiebb_2 said:
Surely there is no way he can deny all responsibility for something that happened literally hours after he did it?
Ultimately your insurers will want to recover their outlay if its possible as much as you'll want your excess back so they'll be making a judgement on the evidence and deciding if there are reasonable prospects of success.
A mate had a repair garage
Almost all cars that came in were claimed to be damaged by the wife or girlfriend never the chap bringing in the car oddly enough1 -
I've never minded admitting I was driving when a gatepost backed into me.Jumblebumble said:
