Damaged used car

Hi , I purchased a used Jaguar xe 7 days ago aprrox 20k . Prior to purchasing the vehicle it had been agreed with the garage that they would refurbish the alloys. I was sent a video of the refurb works and the wheels looked fine. A few days later I was asked to send payment and completed paperwork and collected the vehicle. I had not been given the opportunity to inspect the vehicle before completing the paperwork... Immediately drove it home parked on the drive and noticed damage to front and rear bumpers and paint work damage to the boot lid. After back and forth with the dealership they have said that the vehicle was undamaged when they had it and are not responsible for damage occurring after I purchased it... However on closer inspection of the video sent of the refurb works the damage to the bumpers is visible in the video. I have a meeting with the dealership next week and any advice would be appreciated. My preference would be to return the vehicle as it appears to have been involved in a low speed collision.

If you intend to reject it, do so now. Don't drive it around for another week, that just adds more ambiguity to when the damage occurred. You seem to have evidence of the pre-existing damage. Take it back to the dealership today and formally reject it.LazyFF said:Hi , I purchased a used Jaguar xe 7 days ago aprrox 20k . I have formally rejected the vehicle via email and the dealership manager has said he's refused the rejection and wants to meet with me at his earliest opportunity which is on the 6thAylesbury_Duck said:

Can you drop it off there now, and hand over the keys? Them dragging it out for another week isn't helpful. Apart from anything else it means you've got to store and insure it while it lies idle for a week.

This is the 2nd case in the past month or so of someone spending quite a lot of money on a vehicle and not checking it over when collecting it.Can I ask why that never happened because it would have been very much easier to reject the car based on any damage before you drove it away?0

I was never given the opportunity after the refurbished work was done on the alloys, which is my fault I should have demanded to see it in person. I would expect that a vehicle be sold as described and not suffering accidental damage. If the damage happened during the refurb I would expect them to inform me before I've completed paymentVectis said:This is the 2nd case in the past month or so of someone spending quite a lot of money on a vehicle and not checking it over when collecting it.Can I ask why that never happened because it would have been very much easier to reject the car based on any damage before you drove it away?0 -
So the damage occurred sometime after you bought it, if you didn’t notice it when you test drove and viewed it. You suggest the damage is a consequence of a low speed collision, which therefore occurred between purchase and collection. They are suggesting the damage occurred after you collected it.
How long have you been in possession of the car? You say you bought it seven days ago. Has the wheel work been done since or do you mean it was handed to you seven days ago after the alloy work?1 -
Wheel work was done before collection. I received a video confirming the alloys had been refurbished, showing the work on the 21st. After reviewing that video again the damage to the bumper is visible. Clearly I can't cause that damage when not in or ever having been in possession of the vehicle.Aylesbury_Duck said:So the damage occurred sometime after you bought it, if you didn’t notice it when you test drove and viewed it. Are you certain the damage wasn’t there when you viewed, drove and bought the car? Is the online advert (if there was one) still visible? Can you see any of the damage on that, or is it mentioned?LazyFF said:

If you’re certain the damage wasn’t present at the point of sale (and you did say in your opening post that they claimed it wasn’t damaged before you took possession of it), and you have a video showing its presence after the wheel work and before you collected it, tell the dealer that when you reject the car. The video you have sounds like it blows a hole in their reasoning that it wasn’t damaged when they handed the car over to you. If it ever ended up in court, it sounds like you’ve got very good evidence that the damage wasn’t caused by you.1 -
If you drove the car home, then did you not check before leaving the dealership?LazyFF said:

All the paperwork was completed then the car was brought round from the workshop to the front of the dealership. I was already the legal owner. Very helpful thanksborn_again said:
