Why not just put a double mattress on the floor, or mark out the size of a double mattress in cardboard, and position it in the room to see what room you are left with.2

This is what we did in our spare room and we purchased an L shaped one and this area lifts with storage underneath to store the extra duvet and pillows… no need for a permanent bed to be up. The bed was only used over Christmas.player1_2 said:
Now there’s an idea - hadn’t considered that. A good quality sofa means I get more use out the room when no guests staying, and I could put in a chest of drawers (even if they are less accessible when the sofa bed is occasionally extended ).bouicca21 said:That’s a similar size to my spare room. I’ve put a good quality sofa bed in there. It opens up to a small double. That way I can use the room for other purposes. A double bed would fill the space up and mean that it was so cramped that I had effectively lost the use of a room.1 -

A good quality sofa bed is a comfy thing, both for sitting on and for sleeping, so not even a compromise. When not guesting, you have your chill-out room.1 -
Good thinking 👍RelievedSheff said:Why not just put a double mattress on the floor, or mark out the size of a double mattress in cardboard, and position it in the room to see what room you are left with.0 -
Agreed, and I like Poquito’s suggestion of an L shaped sofa bed which means I can store the duvet and linen - that gives me a usable room which can be quickly turned into a guest room.ThisIsWeird said:player1_2 said:

A queen size is bigger than a double. A queen size is 5’. I’ve got one in my spare room.GDB2222 said:What size is a “full size double bed “? Do you mean 4’6”, and the Queen size is 4’?A 4’ bed is what Americans often call a ‘full’ which is basically just a large single bed often found in fully furnished rental complexes. Can be hard to find in the UK and even harder to find sheets that fit.I also have a king size in the master bedroom which is just shy of 6’ wide.0
