2G and 3G switch off - how do I find out when that happens in my area?

Options
I'm with EE and according to them the switch off date may be 11th June, however the person that I spoke to seemed rather uncertain.

How can I verify exactly when this will happen (based on my post code for example)?

With projects like this delays are often possible.  Why does the exact date matter?   If you already have good 4G/5G signal and your devices can use this technology, then it's more than likely you never use 3G anyway.
3G switch off in June is possibly more likely but I don't see 2G being switched off for at least a couple of years, as it is used for a number of different purposes.
  • Thanks. The thing is that my basic old clamshell phone only supports 2G and 3G, but as I use it occasionally and also for authorisation purposes when logging into some web sites I want to ensure that I can continue to make calls and receive texts.

If 2G switch off is unlikely to happen for some time I'll stick with the phone for now.

According to Ofcom it's already off for them (EE / 3G), earlier this year.

    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/advice/3g-switch-off

https://newsroom.bt.com/closing-the-curtain-on-3g/ says a site in Belfast was the last to go, press release dated 26 February 2024 and mentions it happened "last week".

Ofcom says 2G is "by 2033" so some considerable time to go.

I have to ask why you want to know and also why you cannot use Google / Bing et al to find the answer as I've just done?
  • Thanks, I"ll stick with 2G for now then (it'll save me having to buy another phone!).
