Student working in Canada for the summer - currency useage

My son is working for 2 months in Canada next month. He is 20 and a student.
Any advice on how to manage his cash/currency?
He will be living in a sports camp (in the wilds maybe) - so as in - no ATMs readily accessible...
I'm not convinced taking a stash of dollars is wise.
He doesn't have a credit card. His current account is with Bank of Scotland - should I get him to quickly open a Virgin Money one so no fees on foreign debit card spending?
Thanks in advance

This might help.  Sports camps are not that likely to be in the far wilds, more likely a short distance (Canada so short distance = 50-100 km?) from a town which will have a gas station and therefore an ATM/ABM.  Suggest you google map it.

Do you have a card that you could add him as a cardholder?  That might be quickest and in any case good to have a backup.

nosey interest as to which camp it is (spent my summers until 15 in Algonquin)

He can open a Starling account with Forex free debit card and move money from his current account when needed.

Yes, and/or (more than one) Starling Bank, Chase UK, Monzo, Wise.
There's unlikely to be much need for cash.

About 10-12 km from Orillia and between 2 Native reserves so bound to have good wifi cover and close to ATMs if cash is required.  Nice area.  Hope he has a great time.  Tell him to enjoy the Canadian bacon (best in the world) and not to stuff his face with Timbits.

Could a Revolut card be of any help  - we use them frequently when travelling and easy to switch between currency's and just use it like a normal bank card
