Pay off £8000 in a year challenge...

  • My big motivator is coming on here daily and catching up on things, to keep the debt clearing in the front of my mind. And updating my sig every month so that I can see how much I have paid off since my LBM. Thats enough motivation for me, but I think everyone needs something that will keep reminding them about the debts... ideally just before I buy that bottle of wine or those clothes that I really dont need!
    Make £5 a day challenge - February £54.28/£140
To help pay off 0% CC debt - 27.1.15 £7367.12
    Mortgage deposit savings £2501.00/£15,000
  • Some days are good & some bad when considering the long term & its hard to keep the motivation going when youre here for a long while! I had a major blip and feel really angry with myself for it & have been alot better since then but still come under the "could do better" category so really want to go for it this year & make a dent! I wont pay the cards off but hope to make a serious dent in them! This is the first year I end the year with no o/d - ever so thats an achievement in itself for me!

I agree visiting this site every day is a huge motivator for me too.

Seeing my debt in my sig and reading how people are doing keeps my debts in the front of my mind which is what I need to stay focussed.

Some may say its slightly obsessive lol but it's what works for me.

I can't wait for the New Year to come and to start updating my sig :T

Our debt now stands at £31011.06 & we are hoping to get our debts down to £22.5k by this ime next year. so we have to try & pay off £709.25 a month. First month is going to be very difficult but we're determined to hit the target. Good luck all & we will update how much we'vepaid off on the last day of each month. We will still check this thread out as often as we can & wish everyone the best of luck.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

  • Hi everyone,

My Light Bulb moment was on 1 Dec. I'm a newbie here, having today signed up with the CCCS and their debt management plan (DMP.) I just want to give a public thanks to them for the work they've done with me to date. Don't know what I would have done otherwise! I have debts of around £36,000, with £11,000 of that being a personal loan. The rest is on credit cards.

    Does anyone else:
    (a) Have experiences of dealing with the CCCS and other similar institutions and would like to share them?

    (b) Have experience of dealing with:

    (i) Lloyds TSB (bank and credit card)
    (ii) Mercers Debt collectors
(iii) Getting bank charges back whilst under a DMP.

    Comments will be gratefully received.............

    Rgds

    How is everyone doing?

I have paid off just under £600 this month so slightly short of what I need to pay to be on track. No way I can pay more off though as struggling after Christmas but should be able to do more next month hopefully.

  • Welome newbies! The more the merrier but the later you join the les time you have to pay it off as this runs from Jan -Dec!! Still nt paid any yet (but well done those that have!) as its my pay day next week and any I have left at the end of the month will go toward debt payment. Did get a 0% offer which will help as less interest (which I now really resent paying having previously ignored it!!). My lean month hasnt gone as well as it should so must pull my socks up! Hope you're all ok?

  • Hi, can I join you too please?

    My first challenge ...

However, I think it will really help to motivate me to pay off what we have to pay off. At the moment the snowball says it will be 2010 ... but my debt is near enough £8k (I paid off a lot this month but have, as always, put it all back on again. Why, why, why, why   ) - so it would be FANTASTIC if we could get rid of it this year.:j

    I'm planning to:
    • Meal plan like a loon
    • take sandwiches to work when I go back (25 Feb - currently on Maternity Leave)
    • use any ebay profits
    • use any matched betting profits (have just started)
    • Stop all unnecessary expenditure
