I finally bought a parcel drop box - although I work from home, I get pretty much everything delivered and am fed up of interrupting work for four different courier drops or working around the 2 hour lunchtime slot for Royal Mail and random 2 hour evening slots for the others. That meant weeding a spot in the front garden that was in dire need of it anyway - thistles gone, wild strawberries relocated though not at all sure they'll survive. Now thinking it needs pots either side to help blend it in a bit... somehow it looks huge! So have another excuse to run out to the little garden centre tomorrow.

Hawkweed - having just searched a bit about this I think I have the yellow head variety in the grass at the front and the orange weed that has taken over in the back garden looks like it might be this too. It is what I have been working at taking up in the pebbles in the back. I left it earlier in the year, preferring dealing with the other weeds because the flowers looked nice. It seems that thought might be coming back to bite me as the roots are growing everywhere. Nevermind, I will persevere and hopefully I am starting to get in as it stops thriving for this year. I don't really want to resort to weedkiller but this morning I was nearly at the end of my tether with itI am going away for the weekend this afternoon so will have a bit of a break from the garden. It looks better for what I have done but the despair means I definitely need a couple of days away. I am going to go window shopping in a garden centre this afternoon though and will see how many others I can have a look in over the weekend too.MFW 2025 No. 7 £700/£1200

Afternoon all 😊
I've not managed any time in the garden over the last few sunny days, been in work and then not back til almost dark every night 😕 Trying to make up for it today though!
I'm mowing everywhere, and as it's possibly the last time before the winter, I'm going to get the strimmer out too and do some more of the bits that only get cut once a year (don't worry, there is PLENTY left for wildlife).
I've also got a couple of plants acquired over the last few weeks to plant out in pots, and a few houseplants that have had the summer outdoors to bring back in. Might not all get done today though!2 -
I haven't got out into the garden much recently either Cheery! I'm working today, and the weekend weather isn't looking great, but I also have stuff to plant (lavender, thinking of sticking it in post), stuff to cut back (front garden), weeding to do, veg plot to tidy and either sow green manure or winter crops, and of course scything to do!
Luckily I do have some help in the garden, so the borders (such as they are) are being weeded, edged, and mulched today. And weedkilling will be done this afternoon (I will go out and remind him about that in an hour or so as it keeps being forgotten about).3 -
Been away and left him indoors in charge of everything including the outdoors. First thing he mentioned was that our big sunflower had completely disappeared. I've looked now I'm back and yes it is gone. Completely, no stem or anything. Odd. Small ones still in flower though so that's good.
Some flowers have bloomed too - white and blue almost lily shaped - I always forget that they are autumn plants. Need to go out and see if the courgettes ever did anything and if there's still any tomatoes available. I would get it if he didn't monitor those very well but how he could miss the basil on the window sill over the sink. Dead, dead dead and dead. Not been watered in 2 weeks will do this to things on a sunny sill. Oh well - 79p at Lidl so I'll take it out of his allowance.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Oops to dead basil plants - yes, they do go a bit crispy round the edges when sitting in bright sunshine and not watered, don't they!
You have given me a good idea though - I have a couple of rather lovely white china pots which are perfect for indoor plants, and I also have a nice bright windowsill. It occurs to me that either bringing in one of the basils from outside or simply buying a supermarket one and potting on would be a good use of one of those! (They were proper MSE pots as well as one of the neighbours at our old flat was getting rid and left them on the windowsill in the common area as was the way with useful things folk were wanting shot of...I pounced!)
Several trugs of weeds grubbed up and relocated to the garden waste bin
A lovely bronze Heuchera acquired for £4.50 and now planted into the front
Assorted spring flowering bubs - alliums, crocuses, dwarf daffs and tulips - bought and almost all sown. I still have a few alliums to find homes for.
First row of tatties dug up and sampled - Oh my, Pink Fir Apples are a glorious variety!
General tidying including shifting some bits around to enhance ripening of tomatoes.
Lovely new pot that we bought in Devon a few weeks back now planted with things we already had (and some of the bulbs)
Started the process of emptying pots that are finished for the year - saving useable compost to dig into the veg beds and sorting out the crocks which are now sitting in a pot where the rain will rinse them clean!
Need to remember to note the total number of "tomato suitable" pots I have ready for next year so I can work out how many more we need.
If the weather allows then strimming the lawn needs to be on the list for next weekend...🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Enough tomatoes to pick tomorrow - assuming it doesn't continue to drop down with rain. Too soggy to get out to the courgettes.
But over across the sea I managed to find a couple of honeynut squash. They look like butternuts but are about half the length and while they have the same taste and texture they are sweeter - absolutely lush. I've left them with my brother with instructions to save the seeds and dry them for me. Hopefully I'll have some I can plant in the spring.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Had a good stump about in the garden this afternoon. Moved a lot of chopped back Hazel with Mr KK and cleared out my greenhouse. 😁 Gave it a quick swill down and water to improve the light levels and get the ground ready. I will plant it up with winter lettuce and some baby kales tomorrow that I picked up from the local plant centre today 😊
Last of the greenhouse crops. Yes, that is a tiny aubergine but be nice - it’s the first one I have ever grown! 😉😂
Self sown sunflower in the greenhouse - it was looking so happy and cheerful that I couldn’t bring myself to pull it up … 😉🤷♀️😊

And the sunflower!!! Love that it's cheerful for you. I'm taking the worst way to work currently (traffic and roadworks) just to see one that has decided to grow in the middle of the road on a tiddly traffic island. I want to take a photo but that would mean having my phone hanging out the window. It currently has at least 4 flowers on a stem about 5 feet high - a miracle with lorries going past and an airport a couple of hundred feet away.
