Can l open a second current account  with the intention  of switching  in the near future?
Or have you got to have the account  for a minimum  period?

    Yes.

There's no minimum period you need to have the account for in order to switch it out, once you've got the account details and debit card details you're good to go.
  • OK, thank you.
I'm a bit nervous  because the second account is with my main bank and l don't want to cause ripples there.

You should be fine as a one off, but I'd advise against using the same banking group for too many short lived current accounts as they can get somewhat irritated if you do this excessively.

If you're planning on hoovering up the switching offers it could be worth opening one or two spare current accounts elsewhere, setting up a couple of DDs on them and leaving them on standby for future use and/or just having a current account that you keep switching round the banks to get the offers, i.e. switch the second Barclays account to one bank, once the switching incentive has been paid switch this account to the next bank and so on.
  • I was thinking along those lines.
I done my first switch early this year with RBS but it was a easy one. But all the others look like direct debits  are involved. Thinking  of doing charity DD to cover that issue.
    Thank you again for info.

    In theory you can.

I've never been able to apply for a 2nd Barclays Account for some unknown reason, like I go through the steps on the Android app and I always get rejected.
