Don't swim in the sea when red flags are flying, there are many drownings every year.1 -
You won’t need winter clothes, you need to prepare for it being hot and wet.2

You never need winter clothes in Thailand. Even when it's wet, it's warm rain.

They even get frosts on the mountains.
Jackets are certainly required and the locals join the "socks and sandals" brigade on their motorbikes.
Bobble hats are also de rigueur at the morning markets.

But possibly not at the temperatures as they are in the low-to-mid 30s during the day and 25 during the night.
Winter clothes not requited.
I'd take a waterproof cagoule, brollies, quick drying clothes and shoes/sandals that can cope with water. Maybe trekking sandals or crocs.
The OP hasn't said when they are going but I'm sure it will be very humid.
When we came out of our air-conditioned hotel on our first visit to Bangkok, it was as though someone had thrown a hot, wet, wool blanket over us.

Just don't take any of your favourite shoes as they will get destroyed by the rain and puddles. Treat footwear as being disposable as there is no shortage of shops and market stalls to buy replacements.
If you've never been to Thailand before then the humidity will be the real shock. Fortunately you are never far from a 7 Eleven or other shop where you can do in to cool off with their air conditioning and a cold drink.

Hi. We came back from Phuket about a month ago. Had virtually unbroken sunshine all our time in Thailand (went to Bangkok and Chiang Mai). We go to Thailand most years.
However the locals were all prepared for April being the end of the nice season and the hotel manager was saying that he was looking forward to the quieter time of year where he could relax a bit more.
It's a tropical island in the Northern hemisphere so the best time to go is December to April. From May onwards the wet season starts and lasts typically until October or so. It doesn't get cold (33+) so you won't need your winter woollies, however it can get wet - extremely wet!! The majority of the time is overcast/wet/or thunderstorms though you do get the occasional sunny day. I think there is some local folklore that says that it can rain for 3, 6 or 9 days at a time!
Having said all that the showers are usually brief(ish), it's a lot quieter (and cheaper) as it's low season so you should still have a great time. Where are you staying?0
