When all else fails, there's always pasta with a multitude of different sauces. And it's still available for under 40p per kilo. I buy about 3 or 4kg at a time and a 500g pack does 4 no problem. Hope you like pasta - it's cheap, it's quick and it's very, very versatileI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Well another £1.56 spent yesterday at Mr T's on 2 punnets of plums (which are the best ive had in years) reduced to 39p each. 2 lots of mr kipling lemon slices 31 p each and reduced coleslaw 16p. Bargain. :T
spent £1.72 today on 3 x reduced maltloaf 15p each, peppercorns reduced 68p ,gift tags bows pack for xmas 31p and a new ruler reduced 28p.
so total spend to date is £27.94. Think i may be able to get away with avoiding shops for a few days, although im getting addicted to whoopsie label spotting at small Mr T's. they seem to reduce loads after 6pm.
hope everyones doing well...dont beat yourself up if you have slipped a bit. just try again (the voice of experience talking here!)

I've spent £84.67 so far, this included a trip to Mr T's and a trip to Aldi. I have enough food to last until next Sunday, although I might need to get some more milk and fruit. I spent so much the first week as Mr T's had Douwe Egberts coffee at £1.40 for a small jar and as this is my favourite instant I bought 16 jars!!. This is how I shop, I use a price book and I know if an item I use is really cheap and so I bulk buy. Buying the coffee like this has saved me at least £22.40.

Hi all, at the end of the first week I have spent £33.70 on groceries out of my 200 a month budget, which is very good for me, really makes me aware of what im spending. Havent done a big shop yet though, keep thinking about doing an online order from tescos, but cant think of enough i need to order £50. Kids are back at school tomorrow and im determined to walk most of the time, its a good 20 mins each way so will save a fortune in petrol and will help me lose weight too.
Am picking up a breadmaker and slowcooker from freecycle today, these should help me save money, and be more organised. DS1 has severe autism so benefits greatly from having stuff home-made, without additives.
Having roast chicken today, which has been in freezer for a while, and will make stew and dumplings tomorrow, and soup tuesday. Dont expect to spend any other than 4 pints of milk until wednesday now. More NSD I have, the better, I have to find as much money as i can in a short period to pay my friend for the new car, so things may be extra tight for a while, but 2 freezers and a pantry full, so should still be eating well.

Morning- please don't faint. For the first time ever Aril has updated her sig.
1st shop at Mr T went well- few bargains not on list which I shall use up over the next few days. Smoked garlic 5p yum and mozarella 45p [looks like pizza and garlic bread next week then!!] I also doubled up on bacon as is on offer. Sadly had to buy bread as the BM threw itself on its back with its legs in the air.

From my sig, I can see I'm doing better than usual - it is a lot by the standards of everyone else on here, but my weekly shop has often been £200 odd! I have almost all the food I need for the next week - will need bread (I get it from the deli, and they didn't have any left yesterday). Did the 'big shop' yesterday and it came to £73, including four bottle of wine! Even better, they were late and Sainsbury's left a £10 money off voucher for next time, ha! Got a few extras - had to rush out for lemons at 5pm - kind of a vital ingredient in lemon chicken!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

tesco have a glitch on mr kipling cakes, pre packed cold meats and tubs of sandwich fillers.
eg some cooked meats with no added water are 2 for 3 quid but tills are taking 3 quid off as a discount and you are getting 2 packs meat at 1.73 for 23p each after discount.

Morning All!
I went to Lidl with DH and DSx2 in tow yesterday evening and just managed to stick to budget. in spite of allowing Hubby to get a tub of raspberry ripple ice cream even though we have vanilla at home.
I've tried the dishwasher tablets though and they did the business on last night's meatballs in tomato sauce meal (homemade with leftover Christmas sausagemeat and beef mince out of the freezer - and by DH so it tasted wonderful!). We'll be ditching the brand leader from now on!
Frugal day today and starting over with next week's budget on Monday, when the boys start back at school.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone!0 -
Morning all
Went shopping yesterday morning and have managed to stick to my budget, with a few pennies spare (and we are talking pennies, not pounds!). I have gone back to doing a menu plan as this really helped last time I was on such a low budget. Food has gone up so much since I last actually took notice of what stuff cost. I keep a price book which I update each time I go shopping with the aim to kind of 'shop before I go', it means that I know pretty well if I am going to go over budget so that I can rewrite my list again. Last time I did this, ASDA SP butter was 58p, it cost 85p yesterday!!
Off to update siggy now0
