I just shop around, see you are from good old chesterfield too, the butchers at Netto do 5lb of mince for £3.99 which i thick it good value. THE butchers in market hall good value too.I've now spent a vast amount. Or so it looks like, I've stocked the freezer, and stocked up on the julian graves sale. I had let the storecupboard get a bit empty, so I got some herbs and spices, pulses etc. Also got some flour etc (used it to make pancakes last night and they were yum!)
The other I spent mainly on meat, which made me wonder, what does everyone else expect to pay for meat?
For example I know I can get 2 chickens for £5 in tesco, but in my local market it will cost me £4 a chicken. Where as mince is normally cheaper in the market.
Sorry if this is going off topic, have updated my signature with my total.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
I have just got back from a short break and it's taken me over an hour to read this lot! Anyway, have done my first big shop at Sainsbury's and bought a month's worth of dried stuff and cleaning materials as well as meat and fish for the freezer so I am hopeful of meeting the challenge for the rest of the month. Better get on with the ironing!
By the way Jacks:
Jacks - get yourself down to your nearest Woolworth's - they've got some great offers in their sale - lots of pyrex!
Good luck everyone.
:T OOh thank you honey! I'll go and check out the bargains in the morning. I do miss that blimmin dish. Every time I cook I have to remember I don't have it any more and think what the heck to put things in.

Right Jacks, just been through my meal plan, stew is off the menu for Wednesday and Goulash is on. Still not decided what to serve with it, I think I might just see what it looks/tastes like when it's almost cooked.
Oh and kitty is better now, he won't starve himself, maybe time to make him save you money? Took a lot from me to do it, but with saving over, well over £45 a month I couldn't afford not to.
Oh excellent! I should be able to do the goulash on Wednesday as well, so we can compare notes on Thursday.
I'm not sure whether to do it in the slow cooker or a big pan, as I'm not really au fait with the slow cooker yet.
There you go - if it works out all right I'll be able to tell people I can cook ten things then!

PS I will try harder to be tough with the cat. He does cost me a blimmin' fortune! Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Ok so spent another £32.20 today:eek:
But...
£7.20 was on fresh fruit and veg and £25 was on bulk buying meat from the wholesale buthcers, we got LOADS for that and shouldn't have to buy meat again now for a good couple of months, Bargain of the day was 6 rib eye steaks for £10! I was really impressed with that! Also got loads of chicken portions, mince and lamb chops too! So although it sounds like I've spent alot already this month it shouldn't be too bad as as I said I won't need any more meat for AGES!
Sounds like most other people are doing well, hope everyone ends up underspending!

Hello All
Since our last post a few days ago OH and I are feeling a lot better and have ventured out to the shops!
Didn't have the energy for the supermarket so got Sainsburys to deliver this week.
Total so far, including a few bits from the butcher and some stuff that Sainsburys got wrong is £111 from our budget this month of £350.(someone in a previous post mentioned that they don't normally return things if they send something incorrect but you must! I ordered 4 loaves of bread that were on offer and was sent 4 loaves that were'nt on offer so sent them all back! I also ring and complain if any of the fruit or veg is damaged or going out of date and they just refund the money onto your account.
I have made a list of meals for the next 10 days so should only need to top up on milk, fruit and bread. Made a spaghetti bol from scratch yesterday and doubled up on quantities so that I could freeze a meal.
Good luck everyone.

:rotfl: JoJo that is naughty!! My partner doesn't come shopping usually so not much chance of that one, he took £10 of my money to pay the milkman and 'tried' to keep the change, thought I'd forget, not likely! He's as tight as a kippers **** makes me look generous so I have no doubt he'd moan about a missing penny never mind anything else. Way we work things is he gives me a set amount towards the bills each week, the rest is up to him what he does with, but I do end up paying for everything from meals, takeaways, food out, clothes, holidays etc etc he offered to get a takeaway last week then wanted my money so has been told not to offer out of 'my' purse again please! Is getting better, used to be weekly and he'd also invite friends/his brother etc round then treat them to a takeaway, drinks etc with my money then I'd be picking up the pieces for the rest of the week trying to make ends meet.
Charley, Sainsburys I think charges you for what they deliver (if somethings sent instead of something else you pay the difference) Tesco is the same. Asda substitutions they only charge for what you originally ordered usually, if I order 'smart price' butter at 80p and they send a substitution of 'lurpak' at £1.19 I would pay the 80p for the Lurpak. I use them the most if getting deliveries, comes out great when I order lots of 'cheap things' and they only have the 'expensive ones'doesn't happen too often however that they have items out of stock.
One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I've just spent £22.91 at the local shops on food for next week. So now I've spent £168.13 (target is £400 for the month). Didn't go quite late enough to get any bargains, but I wanted to get it over with...0
