Yeeehaaaa
Just received Tesco shop this morning and im so pleased with myself, I managed to come in at £50.91....
That along with the rabbit food/hay means I have spent £53.96 in total and I don't think I will need anything else this week.

I am going to give this a try too
.........will budget 200 for 4 of us but we will be away for a week too so should make things a little easier.....ty everyone for all your great tips etc....
oh incidentally someone (sorry can't remember who) mentioned about Lidl's bread flour being 48p .....well dh went yesterday and it was down to 38p at our local store......sorry if this has been mentioned already but haven't been able to read every post yet0 -
Lil_me: I'd like to join for my 3rd month please. Budget £200 this month.
December's GC seems to have gone surprisingly well - I think it's due to a good deal of relative-visiting. Also because the turkey dinner I cooked got charged to the Christmas budget which was cheating really..!
I just bought some milk and was reminded how very expensive it is. Does anyone here make up milk from powder for use on cereals, in drinks, making sauces etc? I wondered if it works out much cheaper and is it nutritionally inferior?
Good luck to everyone this month.

Going to try again in January, went a bit awry towards the end of last year with Christmas and all that, but to be honest I have been sticking to quite a few of the tips I have got on here, really need to get my meal plans back though as they worked really well (and then I started to be more vague and I definitely ended up with a few more takeaways than I should)
Right I am going to try quite a strict one (for me) of £200 for the month of January (1st-31st).....I do have a good couple of weeks worth of nappies and wipes in from stocking up when on offer and also quite a well stocked cupboard (not bad in the freezer but will need some meat)
This amount is for grocery and toiletries for me dh, ds and 2 x dds and also 1 little dog....
I want to make it quite strict as hopefully it will help me stay more focused..
I went into Aldi the other day for the first time in ages and was impressed with what I saw there, so going to give them a whirl this week..
Good luck all xJun GC £250.00/£12.40 NSD 3 / 30

Awkward mind changers added
:rotfl: just kidding of course, better to change now than realise at the end it wasn't right, new people added
Been and spent even if I probably shouldn't have, couple of reduced things when I was out I seen and a request from DS1 of something I didn't have in, just trying to get him to eat something as he hasn't eaten properly since before Christmas. I haven't eben stepped foot in a food shop since Xmas eve so was a little weird. Suppose I should sort my signature. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I do keep a packet of powered milk in the cupboard for just in case, it does work out slightly cheaper but is inferior imo, its skimmed and the kids need full fat, it is good if you have a big tea drinker though and for in cooking.
We have no room in the freezer (oh managed to bring several tubs of ben and jerrys home from work yum, but messes up my plans) I was planning on doing a spag bol and saving half inthe freezer but now I'll have to save it inthe fridge, how long would it keep in the fridge, don't really want it 2 days in a row but will if needs must!0 -
 sorry lil_me
thank you for changing it, its the £4000 a year challenges fault, we didn't know what we'd let ourselves in for

oh dear should never of lowered my budget again hehehe
well hubby decided to knock the wall down from the kitchen to the new extention today so sent me out with my DS ( he has breathing probs and we did not want in in with all the dust as he has been a bit poorly last few weeks) Anyway went to asda ended up spending £32.30 on food and another £27 on books and bits for DS bday in 3 weeks did mean i got a few things that will be coming from tescos on the 2nd for cheaper so can knock them off the tesco shop but going online again to tescos meant that after knocking off the bits i had just got i then saw new bits had been put on offer so have now added on a load of bits that will sort out the next 2 months + of lunch box food for the kids etc. Tesco now has a guide price of over £124 but hopefully with the offers etc it should i hope came in under or around the £100.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

Since reading the tip on an OS thread, I've been buying whole milk and doubling it up with water, so I get double the quantity. Cant taste the difference in drinks or cereal etc, so it works well for me - I get my milk half price and I only have to carry one 4pint bottle a week! I use this milk in cereals, tea and have a milky coffee each morning. I only have myself to look after though, wouldnt do this with kids as they really need whole milk don't they.
I use quite a bit of dried milk too, especially in baking, and its not too bad reconstituted and used for coffee etc at a push; I also buy the 6 x 1 litre packs of MrT's long life semi skimmed. That is fine also for baking and for cereals but I'm not keen on it in my tea! I prefer my tea black rather than with long life!
I really bought the long life in case of bad winter weather as I'm in the country and our buses stop running at the first snowflake :rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
