    Hello everyone,

Just went to garden centre to get packet of mixed oriental salad leaves....and spent €69.92! This includes all the seeds we will need (I hope) for the year and a seed sprouter so that I can have sprouts at any time. Don't intend to take it out of my food budget as, although most of the seeds are food ones, there is nothing I can eat now, so am paying out of the gardening budget, but will have to go easy on that one now for a while, but don't think that I need anything.

    I'm still in budget!!! :D

This weeks shopping came to £34.50 - £19 for my huge box of fruit and veg and ASDA came to £15.50.

I have 50p in my purse to last us until Thursday! Luckily we are really well stocked so that shouldn't be a problem!

Ooo, I love sprouted seeds - haven't done any for a long time. I have some chickpeas and sunflower seeds in the cupboard that could be run down a little, thanks for the reminder :)

hi, first of all thanks everyone for the tips, i think il be off in a minute to list all the stuff i already have in the freezer and cupboards and write out some meal plans. I dont really eat junk food as such but i have just realised i do buy things like frozen roast postatoes and chips and i am lazy in that i sometimes give the kids oven food, nuggets, shop made pizza which can cost more, so thats where i am going to start, thanks alot again, and love the cheap meal thread

When we were 5 at home.I used to find it better value to buy a sack of spuds, even a sack of onions -then there was always the makings of a meal.
Have always made own bread-no BM-however OH prefers pappy shop bread!! DD1 and DS now make own bread,so it does rub off eventually.

  • Well another £2.68 spent in Boots today on soap and toothpaste, both of which we did need. And 99p on a veggie sausage mix in the local healthfood store - we have a fancy for veggie sausage rolls and I have puff pastry in the freezer so all I have to do now is remember how to make them :)

I also inventoried the freezer last night and OMG I can't believe how much I have in there. The problem is that DH always thinks that stuff that comes out of the freezer tastes funny. Maybe I need to try to disguise where they come from :)

Ness I see you did post your other thread so I replied there :)

Finally MikeD sorry for the manbashing, you're absolutely right :) hope MrsD is feeling better BTW

Mrs snowy that's a great idea buying potatoes in sacks as opposed to much smaller quantities. Before I started OS(ing) It was never a problem for us having just a few potatoes in but now I cook from scratch we eat alot more potatoes than we did and are having to buy them a couple of times a week and sometimes more. Once OH has sorted out my pantry (it is quite cold in there and very dark) I shall be looking for a regular supplier. Guess I'll have to shop around and see where it is cheapest/best quality to get them from. Onions is a goode idea too, I hadn't thought of buying onions in bulk. Gosh at this rate my pantry is going to have to be some kind of tardis-look small on the outside and yet be absolutely massive inside!!!:rotfl: yeah, like that's gonna happen!!!:D

I used to buy sacks of potatoes from my milkman many years ago, would buy now but wouldnt be able to carry them up the stairs. Have you noticed Tesco dont ever have the Value large potatoes to deliver even if they are in the shops. Wonder if its to do with the weight the drivers have to carry? Mine is up two flights of stairs so they dont like me. Actually correction the lady has been fine, but the men moan!!Lol

Most greengrocers will sell a sack of spuds, deliver 'em to your home too for free usually. Think I would offer a cuppa to the poor guy if he carried them up a couple of flights of stairs, though!!

Went to Mr T's and managed to be £2 under budget. Now have £32 to cover this weeke and next. As there are quite a few meals in the freezer hoping to keep within the budget. Best of all are all the lovely soups I am making which taste great and much healthier than shop bought sandwiches.
