10 Mobile PAYG Credit Top up
Options
I look after my elderly mothers mobile phone account. She's a very very light user, with no need for texts or Data. She'll make one call every week or two.
1p Mobile seems the best for her.
I top up £10 every 120 days using my card. I've just received an email saying it's time to top up £10, but noticed she has £20 credit. I assumed I could pay the £10 out of this £20 credit, but no, it's not possible.
Doesn't that mean the credit is just going to build up and up? If I don't pay the £10 the account is stopped and any credit lost.
I must be missing something here - but what?

If your mum isn’t using £10 every 120 days then this probably isn’t the right account for her anymore. Because as you say, if you don’t top up, you lose the credit. And whereas there didn’t used to be a minimum top up amount it looks as if they now is.
So maybe you need to cut your losses now and find another package for her if you can find one that is any cheaper? Otherwise, look at it that even if you do lose the credit if there’s no deal any better than £10 every 120 days it’s still better value than anything else. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
If this is more about peace of mind about the SIM card being active, you could jump over to RWG for either £50 one-off upfront that gets you 2 years paid upfront with 250 minutes a month, or £2/month by direct debit for 100 mins a month. If the usage is even lower than this at less than 10 minutes a week, their pure PAYG doesn't expire credit (just make a call every 90 days) at 5p/minute.
