Old car written off, (non fault)courtesy car have to give back this week.

So my budget at the momment is 1500-2000 then I can pay 100-150 a month

I live in East Midlands

I’m looking for a Vauxhall  corsa with apple car play. Preferably automatic but don’t think I can afford it on my budget

Other option go without a car and save for six months, I have 2500 debt two overdrafts one credit card

And buy to let morgatge

I went for one car said I passed credit check

Next day lender call me say it’s passed onto us the broker

My credit ratings good no defaults no missed payments maybe failed because recent hard searchers for loans also minimum payment also been about 6 months

What’s best option, yes I do need a car work and social

Wait save up? How much and buy from where

Buy cheap car to manage cost to repair

Finally just buy pay Monthley put deposit down the. Save on side and pay in full year or so?

Thanks

At that end of the market, don't be picky. Especially insisting on popular cars, with (rare) drivetrain choices, with popular (rare) functionality that'll be an aftermarket mod anyway.

Find the best £1500-2000 car that isn't actively near death. If you need or really want an automatic, look for a bigger car.

You should be able to find a Corsa-sized car relatively easily, then spend a bit extra for an aftermarket carplay headunit if you really insist, but it seems daft on something that'll be a stopgap. You'll probably find better value looking up a size, though - Astra/Focus.

The bargains are in unpopular cars.
Don't even think of going near a trader. You'll get no comeback worth having, and just pay a chunk more than you would for similar private.
Look on Facebook, Gumtree, newsagents windows, etc.

Yes you can get automatics for 2k, though you are limiting your choice, as you are if you insist on a Vauxhall - which isn't logical.

You are looking for 12 months mot with no advisories or trivial ones.

I thought the advice above was good. The value is with unpopular cars that are a bit basic. For example I can see some Ford Fusions and a Skoda Roomster at that price. There are also some interesting Chevrolets

    Yes, use this site https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

I buy as much on the person as the car, someone owning a car for 15 years that has full service records is likely to have looked after it much better than someone owning for a month that's not even got the V5C
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

For that budget with an automatic gearbox, I would go Japanese.
If fact I probably wouldn't look an further than a Honda Jazz or a Toyota Yaris. (the 1.33 Yaris not the 1.0)

At this sort of age, make sure it drives smoothly (no judders, knocks or clonks), steers straight ahead and pulls up smoothly and straight on the brakes.
Look out for any signs of corrosion underneath.
The later can be difficult but look back at the MOT history for advisories re rust/corrosion.
Make sure it's not leaking oil or any other fluid, before and after test driving.

Doesn’t have to be auto if I can get a better Manuel.

everythong seemed fine other then when I said can you drive it to me he said he jabs no insurance on it at momment, his friend has recovery truck so would send it through that

he’s only had it a month selling it, said he had new car

Not insured, only had it a month and breakdown truck sounds like he's dealing cars on the QT.

There are plenty of people "dealing" cars that aren't "dealers" as a side line on places like Facebook.

Can you not go see it yourself?
If it's his actual car, his name and address will be on the V5C, not someone else's.

All small hatchbacks will drive roughly the same.

The only cars I find "odd" as some imported Japanese domestic market cars that have been grey imported.
They tend to have the indicator stalk and the wiper stalk the wrong sides, I always end up swiping right!

The MOT history on that actually looks surprisingly reassuring.
Although, Goudy makes a very good point about him possibly being a trader in disguise.
That aside, if it's not insured then you won't be able to test drive it (even if you've got DOC on your own policy).  There's no way I'd even think of buying a car like that without taking it for a really good test drive.
