Scottish power gas smart meter display not working
Looping back to the original post, I wonder if the supplier has incorrectly recorded this issue as an IHD fault? Might be worth checking. Or maybe this has been correctly recorded as a smart meter display fault but the agent in question has confused policy rules which is quite plausible given that IHD faults happen more frequently than meter faults.
The ability to read your meter is such a basic requirement that it seems strange that the supplier is refusing to class it as faulty and replace it. I had no problem whatsoever getting an EDF electricity smart meter with a similar fault (i.e. sending data but unreadable display) replaced without question
Hopefully this can be resolved by raising it as an official complaint but if not it seems possible (or even likely) that the ombudsman would find in favour of the customer on the basis of basic consumer law / fitness for purpose even if it is not explicitly covered by more specific energy metering legislation.
Update again: I received a bill that showed a mixture of estimated reads and actual reads in an irregular order, this was requested when I first contacted Scottish power. After persisting with Scottish power and raising the complaint they finally passed it onto a different team and I am to expect a call tomorrow from a "specialist team". Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
