Cancelling a flight

Options
So I booked a flight to travel in December and something has come and need to cancel. Because 3 days passed, the agency said no refunds.

My sister paid with her credit card. Can the bank cancel this?

Not if it’s a nonrefundable flight, no.
A credit card will not reimburse you for a change of mind.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

That will be what travel insurance is for. If whatever has come up is an insured event of course and you took out insurance before you booked.

your sister needs to look at the fare rules of the ticket together with the agency terms. Often if you book direct with the airline you can cancel within 24 hours of booking (not all airlines offer this) if you book with an agent very few offer 24 hour cancellation.
Refundable tickets are offered by some airlines but are usually very expensive in comparison to non-refundable ones.
If the reason to cancel is not covered by travel insurance and the tickets are non-refundable, it may be worth checking the fare rules regarding changes and many look to pay to change the dates.
The other alternative, if this is not an option, is to sit tight and hope that there is a schedule change significant enough to allow a refund. (slots for December will not be fully confirmed yet so there is a small possibility that the time could change....would possibly know around September)

Are you able to share the reason for cancelling the flight ?
Obviously not if it's a sensitive or personal situation, that's understandable.
The point, as outlined above, is that it may not come under the scenarios which a travel insurer would deem acceptable for reimbursement.
That can come within their Disinclination to Travel assessment.
