Airport security

Husband has a total knee replacement and worried about being held up going through security at airport if he sets off the alarm and all his belongings such as passport wallet etc sitting at end of conveyor belt unattended while he is being checked. Has anyone got any tips or experience of how to deal with this

I too have TKR and travelled to USA a few times and only once was I ever stopped coming home at a US Airport but nothing to do with knee though I mentioned it and was abruptly told I should carry a letter! So maybe for piece of mind get something from GP. Also, go ahead of him so that you can take possession of his valuables should a delay occur.0

I have a hip replacement and an ankle replacement, travel several times a year, and have never been stopped.
He should carry a "man bag" for his valuables - if he's got them stored in a pocket or some other place that requires emptying to place on the belt, his chances of being pick-pocketed are much higher than them being stolen on the belt. Travelon do some great all weather travel bags with great security features.0 -
Any delay will be minimal. Mate had knee replacement and explains to them if it sets off alarm. Think they Usually just wave the wand detector over it. Takes seconds etc that's all. Don't worry.0

Never put a passport, phone, wallet, watch etc on open display in the trays. Always put them in a bag or coat so they can't be seen.0

We take our watches off way before we get to the scanners and put them in our bags.
Passport stays in hand luggage.
Our hand luggage is pretty rare and distinctive so nobody can walk off with it by mistake.0 -

My Mum has a metal plate in her leg and always gets asked but never been a delay or issue.
My parents cruise more than fly now, so completely forget about the liquids rule - my Dad was gutted to have to leave a bottle of spirits behind.
My OH flying back from an international scout camp, forgot he had penknife on him, remembered as he went through security and realised he'd have to leave it behind, however security collared another leader so my OH left him too it - bit mean but no harm done, airport security was understanding probably as they were all in uniform and just kept the penknifeMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

My wife and I will find out for the first time in a couple of weeks. I had a hip replacement last year, then my wife broke her leg badly and now has a rod down through the bone plus numerous plates, screws and pins. I've told her that when she pops her clogs I'm having her melted down for scrap.0
