    Going back to my original post, if a property is detached does that mean there is no adjoining property?
    Not necessarily, as the term "property" can include the land on which the building is situated. In your circumstances I think it refers to the neighbouring property or properties. Subsidence can equally affect a row of detached houses as it can a row of terraced. 
    If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
