I have fully comp insurance on my car with LV=

A family member is letting me have their car for the purpose of practising mechanics on, but I would need to drive this car from their house, to mine, once.
The car will then be SORNd etc and never driven and also kept parked at my home.

Said family member lives literally 10 minutes drive from me.

This is what my policy  document says. ( Image attached ) Should I get temporary insurance for the day, or am I covered under the DOC provisions ?

Bullet point 2 - the car or van must be insured. Is it?

It would be on a third party only basis. Why doesn't the family member drive the car to you then you nip them back home in your car if it's only 10 minutes away?

    Thanks for the reply.

Family member is elderly and has stopped driving. Rather than selling the car, they have decided to gift it to me so I can learn mechanics

From what you've posted, it appears fine. Just don't let them cancel their insurance, gift it or transfer ownership until it's at your house.

The vehicle can’t be yours, the insurance would be invalid.
    No owned hired to you.
You driving his car to your house to fix is legal.
If he later does not want the car and gives it to you that’s ok.

The car will be in your ownership from the minute he hands the keys over with no expectation of it being returned. Therefore, the DOC would not be valid.

Same as driving a newly-bought car home.

Remember, the V5C is quite adamant it's not proof of ownership, in big letters across the top.

There is your problem, it's your car and therefore DoC cannot be used, they won't cover another vehicle owned by you.

There is a third option which you haven't listed which is to add the car to your existing policy as a Temporary Additional Vehicle for 1 day. Depending on your insurers position on admin fees it may be cheaper than day insurance.

Just make sure the car remains the property of your relatives until after it arrives at your house.

For a gift that is going to be hard to evidence when ownership truly transferred given the OP has already stated its being committed as a gift and so its not like they've been told they can borrow it and when offering to return it in 6 months time the original owner surprises them saying they can keep it.
