Try going direct to local council for BB.
That is how we do ours for Mrs, even though she gets PIP.

We sorted BB before PIP made their decision.
This is how I got my original Blue Badge, before I applied for PIP.
Obviously you run the risk of needing to be assessed but as I could only get to our garden gate at the time (oh those halcyon days!  Little did I know … ) I was fortunate they believed me and awarded without one.
    Glad you got it sorted
Thank you.  I shall soon be in the same position though, as my PIP ends in September and just today I got the 'we still have your form, don't contact us we'll contact you' text (sent forms back mid-Feb) so it'll be a case of trying to work out which route will likely be the least hassle for a new BB.

^ Just as a little update I got the extension letter partway through this month.  I absolutely do not have the energy to risk being assessed by the council nor to find supporting evidence etc. for the application so just went with renewing it via PIP.  (Unfortunately they have just renewed it for the year, not applying any discretion to make it longer.  But I knew that was the likely outcome and decided the lack of hassle would be worth it.)

We too sat waiting for the PIP review, and after an almost weekly email saying "We are still reviewing your PIP" she got one saying "We're still reviewing it so we have extended it by a year".  When she finally spotted it it was only 3 weeks before the Blue Badge expired and we also didnt want to go down the assessment route when the PIP assessment should be sufficient, and with a lifelong disabling disease it's very unlikely my wife will be getting better any time soon, so having to wait for someone to say "oh yeah, you're still ill" is a bit of a waste of tax payers money in my mind.  Anyway, the point is we applied for the badge with the extension letter and was given a one year badge, then a week later frustratingly we got the full assessment letter so we could have a got a longer badge. It's annoying that due to the late PIP assessment we will have to pay extra for our blue badge over the assessed term - I know its a very small fee but its the principle for me - a government dept. shouldn't be incurring additional costs for its users due to their inability to perform.
