Jet 2 notified us of hotel building work 3 weeks before trip

We booked our holiday back in Oct to get better price but 3 wks before we are due to go, Jet 2 have advised us of building work starting at the hotel that may cause disruption (swimming pool being added so def kangol drills etc). We were told we could book alternative hotel but the most similar in terms of rating and amenities for our children meant we've paid an extra £795. There were no cheaper alternatives. I think we would have gotten this hotel for better price if that had been where we booked originally.

Where do we stand with this additional cost? Any advice would be great. The holiday was booked via Mastercard credit card and we took out directline travel insurance before this change happened. Or, should Jet2 be liable for the extra cost?

Were Jet2 simply notifying you as a courtesy, or were they categorising it as a significant change that would grant you various legal remedies as options to consider?

Have you had a look on Trip Advisor to see if any recent or current guests have mentioned the building work. It may not be as bad as you think.

    This was in the email:

With this in mind, we have been advised that HYB Eurocalas Aparthotel are adding an additional Splash Park to the hotel. We just wanted to let you know that although the work is screened, it may be seen from some areas of the hotel, for example, when passing through the corridors leading to rooms. The area for this new additional Splash Park is prepared, meaning the outstanding work will comprise of setting up the components of the Splash Park as and when they arrive. This may lead to intermittent mild noise disturbance at times. The hours of work are anticipated to be 08:30 until 18:30, Monday to Saturday.

We decided to move rather than risk 2 weeks of building noise while on holiday! We thought we would have even less recourse if we went and complained afterwards as they had warned us.

It's more the rest of the email that I was asking about, i.e. were they accepting that this was a significant enough change to offer a refund, or simply advising that there may be some inconvenience while still anticipating that the holiday would proceed as booked?

If the former then you may have had some recourse, but otherwise it seems unlikely.

Doesn't sound like they are installing a swimming pool or digging anything out which requires kangol drills during your stay.

A splash park would normally be on the surface but either way it says this is already prepared which would imply any digging is concluded.

I agree. Any heavy work would have been likely completed in the winter months.  I suspect more finishing works, fitting the splash equipment, tiling etc.

Reading that email suggests most of the work has been done. I think I would have stayed put, now that you have paid to move I don’t see any recourse for claiming anything back.
