You are with Santander, I feel for you and the pain you may experience in the near future.
This is normal, I have 20/30 bank and savings accounts.
It always goes on when first making payments.
Some banks are better than others.
Reading on here Santander are not good.

Santander do seem quite strict on this, which I agree with based on experience. NatWest and Lloyds have been named on this thread as strict, although I have no experience of this with either.

Judging from the number of organisations you deal with, you have much more experience than I have, though! You say "Some banks are better than others." Are you able to elaborate, particularly as to ones that are especially strict or especially lax?

  • Co-op were so strict I had a twenty minute conversation with their fraud team when I tried to transfer their incentive bonus OUT of their current account, to another current account in my own name!

TSB blocked my card after I made a few £1 debit card deposits to my YBS account the day before, causing an issue for me in the supermarket, until I sussed out what had gone on. No contact to tell me card blocked, until about an hour AFTER the checkout ordeal.

Chase blocked a payment to a main dealer for a pre-owned car, until I answered a load of questions (2022) and then it still didn't clear for 48 hours!!!

Virgin blocked my ISA transfer to YBS. Still never got to bottom of reason why.

So, there are a few doing it, it's just the experience you endure at the time. Some are politer and more expedient than others.

Remember, it is US they are protecting by doing this, or at least that is what we are lead to believe

You've said this before but, as I've responded previously, it doesn't.

I think you need to change the title of the thread, this has nothing whatsoever to do with following a link from MSE.  It is purely about transferring money to a new account.
Well, one did follow from the other, and I have followed MSE links on multiple occasions without this problem. I am not meaning to imply an issue with MSE links, I just thought I ought to let the MSE website administrators know my recent experience, as I was rather shocked, but based on responses, it seems my experience is not so unusual. Indeed, I now see (from an unsolicited source while checking one of my credit card accounts) that my credit score has reduced from 999, which it's been for as long as I can remember, to 663 ...?! coincidence??
Presumably, it's just the way things are these days.
I guess if MSE are bothered, they'll ask me through official channels to change it.

The first 2 payments are the issue.
Be it £1 or £100 for the first, the second one is stopped or held.
Who knows its like Russian roulette.
Ive moved 85k and all was fine, £10 held fro fraud checks.

    Me too.
Still don’t trust them, not to lock my account at a moment’s notice.

I opened an account with Close Brothers and moved £1 into it. They returned it as it was below the minimum balance to fund the account. However at least I knew it had got to the right place so I felt happy to move a larger amount.
