Phoenix life

Options
I’ve recently been contacted by phoenix life saying they believe I was a policy holder. The problem I have is I can t get past security on the phone as I have no idea what it’s about. I’ve had life insurance with Britannia iv head pensions etc but I’m now 45 and can’t tell them a start date or end date for said policy as I don’t know which it is. I’ve moved house at least 7 times since I was 18 and had various careers. Any advice on how I can get past this as I can’t remember dinner last night let alone when I took out policies and what for. To add to the dilemma I’ve been married and divorced since they used my maiden name to track me.

What information are Phoenix requesting in the letter?
  • Just that I make contact with them, they’ve not asked for any personal details (I have seen the scam letters that are circulating claiming to be from phoenix life and it’s not one of those) it’s a genuine letter but I can’t even confirm who I am, I’ve called and they just keep sending letters asking me to make contact .

Is there an address to write back to them? Old fashioned I know.

You are sounding like a willing scam victim to me.
    Can’t wait, need to know.
Is it a life changing event, I doubt it.
    Just wait.
    Trust no one.
Look up, their phone numbers, address, return address.
Reviews, if it all checks out I would still be wary.
Use your brain not your heart.
Or you will be back here in a month with a title like, I think I’ve been scammed by Phoenix.

Did you check the Phoenix Life FCA register contact information, matched that on the letter you received?

Phoenix does ask a range of questions to identify you. They do the same with IFAs by asking for policy start dates or policy information. This can be bizarre if you are phoning up to enquire about those things and don't have them. But once you say you don't have them, they will move on to other areas to identify you.

Some pension providers do not work at a quick pace, you just have to be patient.
  • I have also just received a letter from Phoenix Life regarding my being the next of kin of one of their policy holders who, in a recent update of their systems they learned had died. It was indeed my mum who died over 10 years ago.  My initial feeling was that it was a scam and looking up their number - 0345 882 8121 - it says this number is most commonly associated with scams.  My mum was fairly diligent with her paperwork and told us where everything was so i can't imagine there is anything left to claim but I suppose a scam would rely on the fact that you would want to know for sure!

That number is valid for Phoenix.
