Anyone used a car insurance broker?

Checked mine and 1 lower than last year and others on a par so I don't think it's a "all premiums are going up massively" situation but is very much individual based as per usual.

Last year lots of people were reporting huge rises and I got away with 10%. This year it caught up with me and it was 55% for a straight renewal. I made some changes which increased it further and dropped extended hire car cover to reduce the hit a little as it's no longer needed.

I use a broker. Used to be called A-plan but now called Howden. 

I've a van for personal use, leisure activities and very occasionally work use in travelling between sites, not carrying goods. 

Vans as private vehicles seem to be quite common around these parts, but my requirements cause a quote engine to blow a fuse. I also like the fact I get through very quickly and talk to a human. I'm expected to make any claims through them and not go to the insurer direct, but fortunately I haven't had to claim.
