Anyone used a car insurance broker?

I thought I would check anyway to see how much I would get on average if I was to do a quote today for 30 days time.
Changes; 3/4K (5,000 miles) value car to 30K value car (10,000 miles). With 3 years NCB to 4.
My prices have tripled! I used to pay £500 and now they are asking £1,500 on average.
Should I be looking at an insurance broker? Has anyone used one? Or am I being silly because of the price of the car + double mileage.
Are there any top tips on what to do when renewing? someone said use a 'new email address' but clearly they have your name, date of birth and address? so should that make a real difference?
Thanks

And if you read around you will find lots of thread about massively increased insurance premiums.0

I am completely taken a-back as it has tripled my annuals! I have only just managed to get it down from £1K to £500 in 2 years, increasing NCB.
It's crazy.
No idea how they expect young drivers to afford insurance.

What make of car is it?
And don't base your renewal quote on what you are being quoted now. Have a look at the MSE Car Insurance guide.1 -
Just about everybody uses brokers for their insurance, every year.
If you get quotes from a comparison site, you get quotes from brokers.
Pause and think about what you're asking them to cover.
You're asking them for an exposure of ten times the value, and twice the mileage.
That higher value almost certainly comes with a much increased theft risk.
Is there also a performance increase?
Is the more valuable car also statistically associated with more frequent collisions?0 -
Mine is ridiculous, A 2016, 5008, 1.6 diesel auto.
12y no claims, 1 at fault claim. Over 50.
5000 miles fully comp £1400 was the best quote.
Bymiles was £110 plus 17p a mile I drive.
Car is tracked via a little box that plugs into the obd2 port.
I paid £110 up front and the milage is charged at the end of the month like a mobile contract.
Max charge is £25.50 a day, that’s 150 mile limit.
Anything over 150 miles in a day is not charged.
Bymiles has good cover also, Fully comp, protected bonus, hire car as standard.0 -
Don't forget that location is also a factor.
For me - 50s, 2012 Nissan XTrail that's been remapped - the renewal this year was up to £300. If it wasn't for the remap, I'd have had a choice of insurers at prices beginning with a 2. The camper van and the classic cars are each <£200/year.
But I live in a very quiet rural area.0 -

if this is going to be a new car, your not doing a like for like comparison.
as already mentioned
its 10 times the value
doing twice as many miles
haven't owned it as long
you have said your a young driver so presumably this newer car is going to be something sporty/fast - apologies for stereotyping
to be charged an extra £1000 on average is not a bad thing and should ultimately be considered in the cost of a new car, similar to the assumed lower mpg - which wont be complained about

It's not all gloom. I received my renewal notice this morning for £266 (+£75 breakdown cover), up from £224 last year. This for an electric Fiat 500e, fully comp with all the bells and whistles and for a 78 year old man driving 4000 miles a year. £300 excess. This is with General Accident who were excellent when I did have an accident in 2019.0
