More fun switching providers

I had previously posted this about Eon/Sainsbury's wanting to take my entire debit amount on my next DD.  Glitch in the system I was told, don't worry we won't take a payment in May I was told.

Fun with switching providers — MoneySavingExpert Forum

And today I got a statement from them for just my electric and was told they would be taking the entire debt on the 28th of this month.  Checked on line and it turns out my last bill didn't show any gas on it at all - I could have sworn it was there through.  Previous bill was both gas and electric.  And Eon is showing that I'm switching electric but not gas.  But my new provider has logged that I'm switching both and is already taken an initial DD on that basis.

Obviously I've written to Eon (again) to ask what the fluff but just think this is really quite bizarre and annoying.

And so it gets more bizarre.....So I've been told I won't have anything taken by DD in May.  And then I've been told the whole amount of £1300+ will be taken by DD on 28th May.  And then I've been told that the whole amount of £80 for the gas will be taken on 28th May.

So can a company take 2 DDs on the same day for different amounts?

I think they can, assuming that the correct notice is given.  I'm not a banking expert though.

If you have switched already and don't have the money to pay in one go you can always cancel the DD at the bank and then possibly agree a more reasonable payment plan with the energy company, do check the final meter readings are the same as the initial readings at the new co, as well.

The money is less of an issue than the mess they have made with dealing with my account.  Readings for old and new seem exact but the old account also has a later smart reading which is a bit bizarre.  Won't be surprised if they pop another bill along for that too.
