You can buy dry cleaning sheets (look like wet wipes) that go in the tumble dryer. Looks like Amazon have a good selection
Never used them myself, but may be safer than washing.

I would risk them too. In a wool wash, with "Woolite" detergent, and no fabric softener. Then line dry or dry flat - spread out on a thick towel on the spare bed/floor works foe me.
I have a few cashmere jumpers that I wash and dry this way and they're fine. Himself has a pair of trousers that say Dry Clean Only on the label but they're fine with this method too.
Oh and I don't iron, so I can't comment on that.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2 -

I accidentally added some fabric conditioner when I washed the trousers (force of habit), which I think explains the darker area patch if you can see near the top right of the image. One more wash without and no signs left of it, just did on a 0 degrees quick wash for 20 minutesGoing to put the waistcoat in on the same wash as I got a similar waistcoat, which ididn't specify to professional dry clean only, and turned out absolutely fine. I think it needs a wash as it has been worn for about 20 days and I don't like the idea that I just can't wash clothes that I wear regularlyFingers crossed2

I would say also, don't wash out of habit, wash if they need it. I tend to air suits after use - jackets and waistcoats have never been 'washed' - spot cleaned where required and shaken / clothes brush but that's it.YNWA

There does seem to be a trend to putting "Dry clean only" labels on items that are perfectly able to go in the machine. I had an interesting discussion on this in my local upmarket "country clothing" store, where their own-brand jeans are now labelled like this. I've never had a pair of jeans dry-cleaned and I'm not about to start now! And don't get me started on the suggestion that "country clothing" might not be designed for dirty use and need frequent cleaning!2

This was a useful warning labelSignature on holiday for two weeks8 -
Hope that label wasn't from a sweeps outfit.4

Virtually the same waistcoat but different washing instructionsWashing the one posted in forst post on cold 0 degree wash turned out fineGrey waistcoat says max 40 degrees, as is standard. The only issue I had was with ironing, as I ironed the velvetty texture on teh back, I found that the grill of the ironing board impressed through, leaving a slight burning in the pattern of it and the shape of the collar on the front. I think I should have listened to the advice about using a tea towel as an in between. It seemed to have had a similar effect on the one without the caution label (the second one) when I had to wash that as I got ink on it. Over all, not unhappy with the result
