John might have an account with a different interest rate from the one that you haveOrgangrinder said:I'm a maths teacher and might use this as a test question.
Last Direct advertise a savings rate that pays 7% interest per annum. You are allowed to pay £250 into your account each month. John says at the end of the year he'll have earned £210 in interest. Explain why John is incorrect.

I'm (fairly newly) a volunteer maths tutor with Project Access, currently trying to figure out how mutually exclusive events, independent events, conditional probability, venn diagrams and probability trees do/don't overlap - it's a lot harder to explain why what a pupil is doing isn't right than to just knowing the right steps!! 😫Organgrinder said:

The misunderstanding is not about compound interest.SaveTheEuro said:Not everyone understands compound interest, just as 10 out of every 8 people don’t understand fractions. It is the misguided belief that any institution will pay interest on money which has not yet been deposited😏10 -

John is not incorrect, he's taking into account the interest paid on his feeder account
