Just to update this thread. I tried and failed to open a new Starling account. I did contact them but the answer was still no.
The joint account is now open with Nationwide but I'm looking for an account for myself. Currently using Chase but I'm starting to fall out of love with it.
I should have thought more sensibly before closing my Starling account down, hindsight is a wonderful thing!
