Solicitors get really twitchy when people are reluctant to or evasive about providing bank statements. Because generally they are acting for the lender as well, they have a duty to report back to that lender about anything which they feel could indicate a problem with the individual client. My strong suggestion would be to not be the person who makes antenna twitch and perhaps invites a report back to the lender which may make them withdraw their offer…
(also - yes, staff in solicitors office do indeed speculate on what it might be on the bank statements that mean the client is being evasive - and yes, LoveHoney does get mentioned a LOT, as do William Hill, Coral, and J D Wetherspoons…😆)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

(This is a genuine question as I had not realised that a service a buyer is paying for may be piggy-backed as it were by their lender if they are seeking a mortgage.)0 -

As a small aside, I was surprised the solicitors only asked for six months statements. My wife was unimpressed after I'd got her to justify just about every transaction in living memory...0
