I'm moving house and my whole deposit is gifted (which i have sent them proof of funds etc) but my solicitor has also asked me for 6 months statements, do i have to send them even though I'm not having to prove i have a certain amount of money in the bank? I've already sent to my lender.

Yes if you want a mortgage, otherwise they will refuse. What are you trying to hide from them?

You don't have to, but your solicitor doesn't have to continue with the transaction either...

Obviously you can refuse anything you want however the real world answer is the same as the answer to the question "do you want to buy this property?"

Solicitors are legally obliged not to facilitate money laundering etc so have to run their own checks, they cannot avoid jail/fines by saying "well RBS approved the mortgage so it must have been fine"

I'm confused:  What is the advantage you get by not sending statements to solicitor?  Something you wish to keep quiet about?

It's that strange situation where someone is comfortable with a firm holding hundred of thousands of pounds for them but dont want to show them that they spend £100 a month at LoveHoney. There are weekly posts in the Motor/Insurance form about credit hire companies asking for banks statements and quarterly posts in the Employment section about future potential employers wanting them. Some people resist sharing personal information unless its on pain of death

It's normal to provide evidence to the different parties involved in the property purchase process - broker, lender, solicitor etc.
