RWGmobile Is there any way to check (non bundle) balance over text? Near non existent support

Despite trying both support@rwgonline.com and .wales, as someone else in other threads stated one may yield better results, they only seem to reply when they feel like it.

I have only have a support reply once or twice and sent approx 6 or more. It is not even a case of a long delay. It seems they just don't bother responding at all to most support requests. Seems it may be like the police in that there is a threshold in what they will deal with as I got a reply about getting a refund for erroneous bundle purchase though maybe that was just a fluke. Also haven't checked if they refunded it yet. They said they didn't even have a way to issue a refund except by bank transfer or cheque. How ropey is that!?

I mainly want to use this for mobile broadband but as I understand it you have to use text minutes to check balance. I got a 5gb data add om on for my first month, having bought just the 1 quid pay sas you go sim. The texts cost to check the bundle but I don't have any idea how much is left. Would the sim just stop sending texts once it was out? I don't want to run into the red so would that not happen?

I know i could just plug into a phone which I may do but for regular use I want a way to check without doing that as I am using it in a dongle and want to check via my machine, which I am able to text directly from it being plugged in but would not be able to listen to voicemails which seems the only option rwg provide.

I am all for basic but as other have also alluded to they seem so basic as to omit core functionality. The online account is useless except to topup.

I originally thought I may use it as a backup pay as you go internet connection but if this may become my main internet it seems like it might be better to go with 1p mobile, which I initially didn't choose due to stricter cutoff rules vs rwgmobile.

Still settling into my usage pattern.

If there will be a decent data bundle with some texts too then that would be fine too or I could just keep a bit of data for texting just to check bundle remaining. Texting outside of bundles is not the best with these though at 5p vs 1p for some competitors.

Checking the existing non bundle credit is the main issue, so long as support is not required. If I can get a text and data bundle for the same price or better as the data bundles then that would solve the issue I guess if the bundle data provides text data as well or gives plenty enough to roll me between bundles each month.

As mentioned I will quite likely end up using the mobile internet as my sole connection at which point I will be topping up every month. Just seeing how long this 5gb will last me and will go from there.

Everythins is documented here, not sure why you're making heavy weather of it?

"Just dial *669# from your phone to get your latest credit balance without the bundle allowance.  To check your bundle allowance please send a SMS to 669 with "info" followed by a space followed by the bundle code which can be found on the rates and plans page"

I am fully aware of that page which does not cover my question. That only shows how to get the bundle allowance via text and only the call credit via voicemail which I stated I do not want to use since it is plugged into dongle, not a phone.

Forgive me if you know this but the *669# code does not initiate a voice(mail) response, it returns a message to the "phone". It's using a GSM USSD code/response.

Of course I've no idea if your dongle (or it's associated interface) can deal with sending/receiving these messages.

RWG are cheap, but you get what you pay for and that doesn't, in my experience, include much in the way of customer service.

Sorry OP I didn't have enough energy to absorb your long post but you mentioned 1p - I went to them from RWG and it was a big relief!

I have to agree that the *669# code and the 669 SMS on their own just don't cut it in some cases. In our case, we were in France for a good while and there was no way how we could find out the allowance usage with our two RWG SIMs. Other than that we've been reasonably happy with RWG so far. There were some bad CS hiccups to start with, but once these were cleared the SIMs themselves worked as expected.
