What a coincidence. I'd never heard of the Marriott Taba Heights Resort Egypt until yesterday , when my elder daughter told me she and a friend are going there on holiday next month and here it is mentioned the very next day!

I see the forecast for tomorrow is 41c  My daughter has very fair skin , she is going to burn that's for sure

There are 3 hotels in taba heights, each is the size of a resort. The best and main one is the hyatt regency. We went a month ago and yes, it was very hot. Great time though, gonna try and go in Jan. We got the Hyatt half board for £300 each. if i hadnt held off I wouldve got it for £260 each. https://www.skyhols.co.uk

Beautiful 5* Marriott Taba Heights in Egypt - half board - 7 nights - free
    £269.00 to £718.00

Exclusive offer to 5* El Alamein, Egypt - 7 nights half board - Huge savings
    £248.00 to £529.00

It seems to be El Alamein that is cheap now. Out of these two which is the best buy? I'd like to visit the pyramids and cairo, and be somewhere where there is some local culture - not just tourists everywhere.

taba heights is well away from the pyramids, about a 5 hr drive but there are excursions. they are, however, nr the israeli border and there are several trips there

take a look over at https://www.tripadvisor.com they have forums like here

Near to Taba are several places of interest including Mount Sinai and Saint Catherine's Monestary (where Moses burnt his bush), the interesting Coloured Canyon is also close by but of most interest is a short trip to Jordan to beautiful Petra (where Indiana Jones was filmed).

Hmm, i went to the Hyatt in October, just after the terrorist bomb up the road, so excursions were pretty limited round to Petra etc at the time.
It's a very cheap deal, fabulous layout, best hotel to snorkel froml, but you're very captive on site.
When the resort is finished there will be other bars, shops, golf course etc...but at the moment you've got the hotels and thats it. Oh, apart from a little petrol station on the outskirts.
Prices onsite were very expensive for Egypt and although it's classed as 5*, i'd argue with that immensely. Facilities maybe, but you have to pay extra for everything, no complimentary water, there's not even a kettle in the rooms etc..
Take a travel kettle, biscuits, snacks, tea bags, coffee etc...it'll save you a fortune. £2 for a pack of chocolate biscuits in the shop.

The Marriott further up the beach do a happy hour every night, it was packed with folk from the other hotels. Otherwise beers are £3 a bottle or can, everywhere....English prices when the rest of Eygpt charges 60p.

From talking to other guests, we got the impression that they're offering cheap deals to get tourists in, then maximising profits from additional charges. OK, you don't have to pay for what you don't want, but you're on holiday so you will anyway.

The snorkelling is excellent, food was good and its a great place to just relax and read books!
